Job description

Product & Mechanical Engineering Lead - Optics / Hardware / Manufacturing

I’m working with an early-stage deep-tech company developing highly complex optical communication hardware for space.

They’re looking for a Product & Mechanical Engineering Lead to take sophisticated optical hardware and turn it into a robust, repeatable and scalable product.

This is not just a traditional mechanical design role.

The focus is on productisation - taking multidisciplinary hardware from prototype through engineering validation and into repeatable manufacturing.

You’ll work across:

  • Mechanical architecture and detailed design
  • Optical / electrical / mechanical integration
  • Precision tolerance stack-ups
  • Supplier and contract manufacturer engagement
  • Reliability and robustness
  • Prototype builds and design iteration
  • Scaling low-volume hardware toward repeatable production

Especially relevant for people who have developed compact, high-precision products such as:

  • Cameras and imaging hardware
  • AR / VR hardware
  • Aerospace hardware

Space experience is useful, but not essential.

Someone who has helped take an optical or electromechanical product from early prototype through to hundreds or thousands of units could be extremely relevant.
