Job summary

Verrus is seeking a Product Manager, Data Center Engineering, to own the electrical and mechanical plant infrastructure across our data centers. This full-time role, based in Verrus' Mountain View, CA office, requires translating customer needs into engineering requirements and coordinating with suppliers and partners to deliver the product roadmap.

Role

Verrus is looking for candidates to serve as a Product Manager, Data Center Engineering, reporting to the Head of Product. This is a full-time position, preferably based out of Verrus' Mountain View, CA office.

In this role, you will take ownership of product management for the electrical and mechanical plant infrastructure that underpins Verrus' data centers — from requirements gathering and adaptation for customer-specific use cases, through to installation and operations with our external suppliers and contracting base. You will be the connective tissue that ties together hardware, controls/PFMS, software infrastructure, and optimal dispatch.

Your ability to lead deep, customer-facing technical conversations and translate those requirements for engineering product development, then work with engineering, delivery, the contracting base, and suppliers/partners to realize our product roadmap, will be key to success. You will be part of a dynamic and fast-paced startup environment while building the most consequential data center foundations for modern-day technology.

Profile

Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME) or Electrical Engineering (EE), with up to 10 years of experience building hardware/software systems. Proficient in customer-facing, deep technical conversations; translating requirements for engineering product development; and then working with engineering, delivery, the contracting base, and suppliers/partners to realize our product roadmap across data center engineering.

Responsibilities

• Electrical & Mechanical Plant Infrastructure Ownership: Take ownership of product management of key electrical and mechanical plant infrastructure, including requirements gathering and adaptation for customer-specific use cases.
• Supplier & Contracting Base Management: Work with external suppliers and the contracting base for installation and operations of plant infrastructure. Note that this role is distinct from site delivery program managers, who typically focus on lead times and coordination with installation crews — this role owns the product itself.
• Systems Integration: Be the connective tissue that ties together hardware, controls/PFMS, software infrastructure, and optimal dispatch, ensuring these systems function together as a coherent product.
• Customer-Facing Technical Engagement: Lead customer-facing, deep technical conversations to understand and scope customer-specific requirements for electrical and mechanical plant infrastructure.
• Requirements Translation & Engineering Partnership: Translate customer and field requirements into clear inputs for engineering product development, then partner with engineering to realize those requirements in the product.
• Cross-Functional Roadmap Execution: Partner with engineering, delivery, the contracting base, and external suppliers/partners to realize Verrus' product roadmap across data center engineering, from design through commissioning.

Minimum Qualifications

• Advanced degree (Master's or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering (ME) or Electrical Engineering (EE), or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Up to 10 years of experience building hardware and/or software systems, in engineering, product management, or technical program management roles.
• Demonstrated ability to lead customer-facing, deep technical conversations and translate customer and field requirements into inputs for engineering product development.
• Experience working with external suppliers, contractors, or the broader contracting base on the installation and operations of technical infrastructure.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, delivery, contracting, and supplier/partner stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with electrical and mechanical plant infrastructure specific to mission-critical or data center environments (e.g., switchgear, generators, UPS systems, cooling plant).
• Familiarity with controls systems and plant/facility management software (PFMS), and an understanding of dispatch optimization strategies.
• Experience working at or with hyperscalers, large-scale data center providers, or energy infrastructure companies.
• A self-starter mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment where ambiguity is common and innovation is required.
• Passion for sustainability and energy systems that support Verrus' mission of flexible, grid-interactive data centers.

Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position in California is 200,000-$235,000. Compensation is determined by multiple factors, including market location, and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Salary is only one part of Verrus' comprehensive compensation package, which also includes a discretionary bonus, equity, general health benefits and paid time off.
