Location: Grand Rapids, MI

This position, which offers a blend of onsite and hybrid work arrangements, is based in Grand Rapids and necessitates a presence in the office for 2-3 days each week. An extensive corporate relocation package is also available for eligible candidates.

Position Overview

This role will be responsible for leading the Product Engineering group within the Sustaining and Test organization, overseeing all engineering duties for Avionics North America products. The role provides technical leadership, ensuring delivery on cost, quality, schedule, and technical goals. The team handles engineering support during production and in-service phases, including electronics debugging, root cause analysis, and implementing improvements. The Product Engineering Manager will also support factory goals and strategic initiatives such as data analytics, lean, kaizen, and diagnostics.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight and guidance to establish effective factory support operations.
  • Lead talent acquisition, management, training, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Develop and execute succession plans for key roles.
  • Coordinate between Product Engineering and development teams during product development.
  • Ensure Design for Manufacture and Design for Test principles are applied.
  • Coordinate with factory support teams during production and in-service phases.
  • Lead safety and quality investigations of high visibility/criticality issues.
  • Propose and execute lifecycle product and test improvements.
  • Incorporate manufacturing lessons learned into new designs.
  • Identify and execute factory improvement projects (lean, kaizen, etc.).
  • Report status accurately and timely to leadership.
  • Ensure adherence to GE processes and procedures.
  • Support team success through deployment of daily management tools.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field with at least 8 years of experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • U.S. Citizenship, as the role involves access to U.S. government data.
Desired Characteristics
  • Master's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in staffing strategies, succession planning, goal setting, and budgeting.
  • Experience with electronics, electro-mechanical, or test design and development.
  • Knowledge of processor-based electronics hardware and diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing/Test principles and electronics manufacturing processes.
  • Continuous improvement mindset, strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with lean tools and managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Attributes: humble, transparent, focused, problem solver.

The base pay range is $121,500 - $150,000, with potential bonuses. The position is open until 8/01/2025.
