SKF Automotive Business in Plymouth, MI is seeking a Product Engineer to join the R&D Driveline Engineering team. You will help develop the next generation of products for traditional and electrified powertrains, translating market trends into efficient, cost-effective solutions.

You will support CAD activities, technical data, specifications, and documentation, collaborate across cross-functional teams, and contribute to testing and validation.

Qualifications

Location: Plymouth, MI

As a Product Engineer, you will join the R&D Driveline Engineering organization, within the Powertrain Engineering team. In this role you will contribute to developing the next generation of products and knowledge for traditional and electrified automotive powertrains. You will also support daily business needs with mechanical product expertise, building on SKF Automotive’s current Ball Bearing and Roller Bearing portfolio. This position allows you to work in a multidisciplinary and dynamic environment in close collaboration with teams across the full value chain, from suppliers to customers. Finally, you will translate market trends and customer needs into new, efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Support the creation, maintenance, and documentation of product technical data and engineering information.
• Assist in responding to customer requests by preparing product specifications, application recommendations, and technical documentation.
• Support design and 3D CAD activities for customer projects and development programs under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Participate in product development activities, including requirements reviews, design reviews, prototype evaluations, and validation testing.
• Assist with engineering analyses, simulations, and design verification efforts to support robust product performance.
• Contribute to the documentation of lessons learned and engineering best practices, particularly for electrified powertrain applications.
• Provide technical support to Sales and Application Engineering teams by helping translate customer requirements into product-related solutions.
• Support engineering change requests (ECRs), design updates, and product improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including application engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, testing laboratories, and product development groups, to support ongoing projects and product optimization efforts.
• Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and engineering practices related to bearings, driveline systems, and electric vehicle powertrains.

Requirements

• Engineering Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field, or in process of pursuing degree with expected graduation date
• Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles and component design.
• Interest in high-precision mechanical products and automotive applications
• You are fluent in English, both written and spoken.
• Tool experience preferred:
  • Exposure to 3D CAD software such as PTC Creo or similar design tools.
  • Familiarity with product data management systems such as Windchill or equivalent.
  • Experience through internships, co‑op programs, university projects, or extracurricular engineering activities.
  • Basic understanding of product development processes and engineering documentation
