Job Title: Product Engineer IIJob Location:Rockbridge, VARequired Travel:0 - 15%Position DescriptionThe Product Engineer II reports to the Engineering Manager for the Data Center vertical. Work within the Engineering Department to design, develop, and document Chiller designs within the scope of products manufactured by the Data Center team. This position will be responsible for the development and transfer of technology including but not limited to documentation of products that span across Climate Solution Regions (Americas, EMEA, and Asia).Key Responsibilities- Design & Develop new Chiller products or modify existing to meet customer requirements and create supporting documentation based on project scope, market needs and regulatory requirements for the Data Center Vertical.
- Evaluates and designs electromechanical products by applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer and materials.
- Perform finite element modeling and structural simulation for the products. Interpret FEA results and recommend design changes/directions to meet product performance requirements.
- Interface with other Modine regions, CS manufacturing locations, and/or customers to assure a smooth transition from one region to another with global product development.
- Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
- Support customer applications with heat transfer, energy and/or chiller system designs. Review of approval and manufacturing drawing packages.
- Support other engineers and designers with product development projects related to design and documentation as needed.
- Travel to other regions (Leeds, UK) and customer sites if needed (10-15%).
Required Education & Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline with 2-7 years of Engineering experience, or master’s degree in engineering, or a related technical discipline, or business, with 1-3 years of Engineering experience. OR, 7-15 years equivalent experience in the specified Engineering discipline with a strong fundamental background and/or experience in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and psychometrics.
- Experience with Chiller, HVAC, or unitary design especially dealing with sheet metal is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Mathcad, a 3D CAD System, FEA & CFD software as well as Microsoft Office applications
- Must have strong analysis and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
