Product Engineer, Series B AI-Native InsurTech Start-Up (Full-Stack, AI)

New York, NY (Flatiron, Hybrid, 3 days in office)

I’m working with a Series B insurtech company that is rebuilding how businesses manage and finance their own risk. A captive is an insurance company that a business owns itself. Until now captives have been used almost only by the largest corporations, because setting one up has been slow, custom and expensive. This company runs the whole process on its own AI-native platform. Software agents run the workflows and licensed experts direct and approve them, so far more businesses can afford a captive.

The model works. They have a book of live clients with zero client turnover and grew around 700% this year. They have recently raised their Series B to scale the platform. The engineering team is small and deliberate, so every hire moves the roadmap.

The Role

You’ll own features end to end and sit directly with the business to decide what gets built. No insurance background is needed. Here the software is the business.

Typical work includes:

• Writing code about 60% of the time across React and TypeScript front ends and Node and Python services
• Sitting with business users to break down manual workflows such as invoicing, document handling and approvals, then building the platform pieces that automate them
• Building production features with LLMs and agents as a core part of the platform, not an add-on
• Product planning and roadmapping with product managers and the business
• Using AI tools in your daily development, and knowing when to write or check code by hand

TypeScript, React, Next.js, NestJS, Node.js, Python, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, Kafka, event-driven architecture and CQRS, GCP, with LLM and agentic workflows.

What they’re looking for

• 3 to 6 years of full-time engineering experience after graduation, gained at a company known for a high engineering bar: big tech, AI labs, top fintech or late-stage product-led start-ups
• Strong full-stack product engineering, with ownership from data model through to UI
• AI features (LLMs or agentic workflows) you have shipped to production, and clear views on using AI in development
• Experience working directly with users or business teams to understand how they work
• A CS degree from a strong programme and steady tenure at each employer
• Someone who wants to own and ship features, rather than be a founding engineer or CTO
