Job description

Proudly Recognized as Lancaster County's Best Place to Work!

The Product Engineer is the technical backbone of our product organization — responsible for product documentation, data integrity, and engineering support across sales, operations, and new product development. This role ensures that product data is accurate, accessible, and aligned across all systems, while providing hands‑on technical support to the sales team and contributing to Design to Cost and NPD initiatives. The Product Engineer works within a senior cross-functional team and reports into the Product Strategy & Innovation function.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for the sales team across bare copper, wire & cable, and assembly product lines. Review customer requirements, application needs, production implications, and product designs to support quoting.
  • Analyze existing products against material costs and production capabilities to drive Design to Cost initiatives — from developing the business case through defining the solution. Maintain product data integrity — ensuring master constructions, BOMs, drawings, specs, and data sheets stay aligned and accurate through product changes.
  • Create and maintain product technical documentation — standard specifications, 2D/3D drawings, and data sheets — for internal, customer-facing, and marketing use.
  • Support new product development projects during internal and external lab evaluation.
  • Work alongside Quality and experienced team members to absorb institutional product and process knowledge and document it for continuity.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, or related)
  • 0-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment
  • Proficient in CAD software for 2D or 3D modeling (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent)
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to data accuracy across systems and documentation
  • Strong technical writing — clear data sheets, test reports, and specifications
  • Collaborative and interpersonally sharp; earns trust quickly with experienced colleagues on a senior cross-functional team
  • Self-starter; manages multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Preferred: Hands‑on lab or product testing experience; working knowledge of material properties (copper, thermoplastics, elastomers)
  • Preferred: wire & cable or electrical products experience; familiarity with UL, CSA, ICEA standards; ERP systems
  • Embrace Direct Wire’s core values: Be a Great Person, Serve Your Customers Well, Do Great Work & Be a Great Teammate.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their families beginning on day one.
  • Company-funded Health Reimbursement Account (HRA).
  • Optional Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
  • Disability, accident, critical illness, hospitalization, and life insurance options.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • 401(k) with a 5% company match after 90 days of employment.
  • Generous paid time off, wellness days for eligible on-site employees, and paid holidays.
