Job summary

Advanced Digital Cable, Inc. is seeking a Product Engineer to support the design, development, and ongoing improvement of low-voltage wire and cable products.

You will work with customers, sales, product management, manufacturing, quality, and operations to translate needs into manufacturable solutions. This role requires strong technical knowledge of wire and cable construction and materials, with experience across industrial, electrical, utility, and renewable energy markets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required; Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience in wire and cable industry with knowledge of products, materials, constructions, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience supporting product engineering, application engineering, product development, technical sales support, or customer-facing engineering activities.
  • Understanding of low-voltage wire and cable products.
  • Ability to interpret customer needs, technical specifications, drawings, performance requirements, and application conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot product, process, and field application challenges.
  • Effective communication skills for working with customers, sales, manufacturing, quality, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and technical requests in a fast-paced manufacturing and customer-support environment.

Position Summary

The Product Engineer is for supporting the design, development, application, and ongoing improvement of wire and cable products serving the low-voltage market, defined as products rated below 1,000 volts. This role requires strong technical knowledge of wire and cable construction, materials, manufacturing processes, product performance, and customer applications across industrial, electrical, utility, and renewable energy markets.

The engineer will work closely with customers, sales, product management, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to translate customer needs into practical, manufacturable product solutions. This position also serves as a technical resource for product selection, application guidance, troubleshooting, and new product development.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Product Design, Development, and Lifecycle Support
  • Develop, evaluate, and support low-voltage wire and cable products based on customer requirements, market needs, application conditions, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Support product designs covering conductor sizes from 22 AWG through 750 MCM and multi-conductor or paired constructions up to 36 pair counts.
  • Participate in the full product lifecycle, including concept development, feasibility review, design, prototyping, testing, validation, launch, and post-launch support.
  • Support product trials, sample builds, testing, validation, commercialization, and product launch activities.
Customer and Application Engineering Support
  • Translate customer descriptions, specifications, and application challenges into appropriate cable constructions, product recommendations, or new product development opportunities.
  • Work directly with customers to understand performance expectations, installation environments, electrical requirements, mechanical needs, and application constraints.
  • Advise customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders on how existing or proposed products meet application requirements.
  • Provide technical support for industrial, electrical, utility, renewable energy, control, instrumentation, and related low-voltage applications.
Engineering Documentation and Technical Data
  • Develop product specifications, construction details, bills of material, routings, test requirements, and related engineering documentation.
  • Create, review, and maintain technical drawings, product data sheets, standards documentation, and engineering change records.
  • Maintain and update product specifications, engineering data, construction details, test reports, and technical documentation.
Testing, Quality, and Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct product testing, performance analysis, and validation activities to confirm products meet customer, regulatory, quality, and internal requirements.
  • Analyze product performance, quality data, field feedback, and customer input to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead or support engineering change requests, product revisions, cost reduction projects, material substitutions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify product improvement, cost reduction, material optimization, and line extension opportunities.
Manufacturing, Operations, and Issue Resolution
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and process teams to ensure proposed products are practical, cost-effective, repeatable, and aligned with plant capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot product, application, manufacturing, or field performance issues and support root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Work with quality, manufacturing, purchasing, and suppliers to resolve material, process, specification, and performance issues.
  • Provide technical support for sales, customer service, operations, quality, and production teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Standards, Market Awareness, and Project Management
  • Stay current on applicable industry standards, customer specifications, material trends, regulatory requirements, and competitive product offerings.
  • Manage multiple engineering projects, technical requests, timelines, and priorities while communicating status, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Prior experience in the wire and cable industry, with working knowledge of products, materials, constructions, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience supporting product engineering, application engineering, product development, technical sales support, or customer-facing engineering activities.

Preferred Skills & Certifications
  • Proficiency with engineering design, product data, and documentation tools such as CAD software, ERP systems, product lifecycle management systems, or similar technical platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of product development processes, design reviews, engineering change control, manufacturing readiness, and commercialization practices.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, root cause analysis, corrective action, and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret customer specifications, electrical drawings, cable constructions, test reports, standards, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Familiarity with UL, NEC, CSA, ICEA, IEEE, IEC, RoHS, and other applicable wire and cable standards, codes, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting agency approvals, product listings, compliance documentation, material qualifications, or third-party testing activities.
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills, including the ability to ask effective technical questions, clarify application requirements, and explain product recommendations clearly.
  • Preferred certifications or training may include Engineer in Training certification, Professional Engineer license, Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Manufacturing Engineer, Project Management Professional, or wire and cable industry technical training.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.

The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $135,000 annually. Individual compensation within this range will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, and work location.
