Job summary

A.O. Smith in Haltom City, TX is seeking an experienced engineer to perform advanced tasks, mentor the design team, and guide products from concept through launch. You will collaborate with R&D and manufacturing, using CAD tools to create prototypes and ensure production readiness.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 3 years of related experience; Six Sigma or FMEA experience is a plus. Strong problem solving, communication, and Lean/MRP knowledge are essential.

Responsibilities

• Participate in industry groups.
• Perform advanced engineering tasks under limited supervision.
• Oversees all aspects of a significant engineering project, from start to finish, so that it is completed on time and within budget.
• Develops an action plan and estimates requirements for resources-management, labor, materials, and time required to complete project.
• Prepares monthly reports, detailing progress and costs for top management.
• User of CAE tools such as Solidworks, MATLAB, LabView, Minitab, EES, CFD, FEA.
• Develops and applies engineering standards and procedures, and provides advice on issues within the engineering field.
• Analyzes and identifies causes of component failures.
• Capable of providing technical solutions to help solve manufacturing issues or address customer field issues; has some familiarity with multiple operations.
• Use team management skills to lead the design group during the conceptual phase of product development.
• Conduct project meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the project team.
• Finish assigned engineering projects in accordance with customer specifications and within schedule and budget limitations, coordinating activities of engineering team, contractors, and vendors.
• Lead brainstorming activities for specific needs.
• Participate in value analysis/value engineering (VAVE) projects and process improvement activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, material utilization, and labor efficiency.
• Gather and analyze operational, labor, material, and quality data to support project selection and execution.
• Develop savings estimates, track project progress, and validate results with stakeholders.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Primary Function

Performs advanced engineering tasks with limited supervision and mentors the design team throughout the product development lifecycle.
