Job summary

A.O. Smith Corp. Haltom City, TX location is seeking an experienced engineer to perform advanced tasks across the product development lifecycle.

You will design, develop, test, and optimize products with CAD tools, coordinating with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to ensure production-ready designs. Responsibilities include leading significant engineering projects, mentoring the design team, and delivering on cost, schedule, and performance targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of related work experience or training.
• 6 sigma or FMEA experience a plus.
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills; solves complex problems.
• Experience leading Kaizen related or Continuous Improvement Activity.
• Ability to analyze and resolve issues quickly through root cause analysis.

• Oversees all aspects of a significant engineering project, from start to finish, so that it is completed on time and within budget.
• Develops an action plan and estimates requirements for resources—management, labor, materials, and time required to complete project.
• Prepares monthly reports, detailing progress and costs for top management.
• User of CAE tools such as Solidworks, MATLAB, LabView, Minitab, EES, CFD, FEA.
• Develops and applies engineering standards and procedures, and provides advice on issues within the engineering field.
• Analyzes and identifies causes of component failures.
• Capable of providing technical solutions to help solve manufacturing issues or address customer field issues; has some familiarity with multiple operations.
• Use team management skills to lead the design group during the conceptual phase of product development.
• Conduct project meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the project team.
• Finish assigned engineering projects in accordance with customer specifications and within schedule and budget limitations, coordinating activities of engineering team, contractors, and vendors.
• Lead brainstorming activities for specific needs.
• Participate in value analysis/value engineering (VAVE) projects and process improvement activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, material utilization, and labor efficiency.
• Gather and analyze operational, labor, material, and quality data to support project selection and execution.
• Develop savings estimates, track project progress, and validate results with stakeholders.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Primary Function

Performs advanced engineering tasks with limited supervision and mentors the design team throughout the product development lifecycle. Collaborates with R&D to convert concepts into functional products, using engineering principles and CAD tools to create prototypes and models.
