This position can be fully remote for the right candidate.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join our team as a Product Director. This role is pivotal in driving team performance and fostering a positive work environment. The ideal candidate will be a strong people leader, capable of managing a team of 4 direct reports and 1 indirect report.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Leadership and Team Management: Provide clear direction, mentorship, and support to a diverse team. Inspire and motivate team members to achieve their best performance, while addressing areas for improvement with empathy and strategic guidance.
  2. Problem Solving and Innovation: Navigate ambiguity with ease, developing innovative, solutions-based approaches to overcome challenges. Demonstrate resilience and adaptability.
  3. Performance Management: Implement strategies to ensure all team members are aligned with organizational goals and are continuously improving.
  4. Communication: Foster open and transparent communication within the team, ensuring everyone is informed, engaged, and working collaboratively towards common objectives.
Qualifications:
  1. Proven experience in leading and managing teams, with a track record of developing and mentoring staff.
  2. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to find solutions.
  3. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  4. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle ambiguity with confidence.
  5. Technical Insurance knowledge strongly preferred.
  6. Must have an analytical mindset to be successful in this position.

Job Description Summary

If you are driven to develop real business intelligence from data to inform business decision making and can communicate complex issues clearly, we want to know more about you! Leading our team provides the opportunity to influence the products offered and help Nationwide meet and exceed the needs of our customers today and into the future.

As a Director, you'll lead a product management team that drives profitable growth through strategic product positioning across the country. You'll develop plans and initiate changes aligned with corporate objectives and market opportunities. You will also drive program and process implementation, and manage relationships with internal and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Gather detailed industry, competitor, and product performance data to develop insights for partners, including overseeing research projects.
  2. Analyze product performance across geography, channels, and lines of business to identify trends, opportunities, and risks for profitable growth.
  3. Manage timelines and resources to ensure project completion and lead cross-functional projects.
  4. Develop comprehensive product strategies for profitability, including rate reviews, pricing, and risk management.
  5. Consult with leadership on analysis, ideas, and performance, providing recommendations and fostering collaboration.
  6. Communicate and present product strategies organization-wide, translating complex data into understandable messages.
  7. Build and maintain relationships with peers and partners, providing strong leadership and mentorship.
  8. Participate in training and development activities to enhance team skills and knowledge.
  9. Supervise management of associates, including performance reviews, training, and organizational planning.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to the Pet Product AVP. Typically leads 4-8 direct and/or indirect reports.

Typical Skills and Experiences:
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields; MBA preferred.
  • Progress toward or completion of professional designations like CPCU, AU, CIC, INS, ARM, or actuarial exams preferred.
  • At least ten years of experience in underwriting and product management; cross-functional and data analysis experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of business functions, financials, and competitive landscape.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and lead projects.

Other criteria, including leadership competencies, may take precedence.
