Job description

Reports to the VP of New Product Development and is fully remote within the continental US. Occasional trips to the HQ in Plymouth Meeting, PA, will be expected.

Position summary :

A Product Development Materials Engineer is responsible for supporting research and development of new dental materials, product enhancements, and product redesigns with a focus on dental materials used in restorative and preventative dentistry. The position requires planning and coordination of testing, analyzing data, and collaborating with external partners and other teams to ensure the materials meet clinical requirements, safety standards, and market demands. This role requires exercising independent judgment. This job description provides an overview but is not exhaustive of all activities, duties, or responsibilities.

JOB DESCRIPTION :

Key responsibilities may include :

  1. Originating new products in response to customer needs and business strategies.
  2. Designing and creating new dental material compositions, optimizing their properties, biocompatibility, and performance.
  3. Overseeing key projects, processes, performance reports, data, and analysis.
  4. Negotiating contracts with consulting firms, universities, individuals, and labs for research and support.
  5. Collaborating with dental professionals to conduct user evaluations and assess product performance.
  6. Staying updated on advancements in dental materials science by reviewing scientific literature and identifying new technologies.
  7. Contributing to the development and protection of patents related to dental material innovations.
  8. Refining manufacturing processes to ensure quality and scalability of dental materials.
  9. Ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory standards (FDA, ISO) during development.
  10. Working closely with product development, marketing, quality control, and clinical research teams to bring new dental materials to market.

Required skills and qualifications :

  1. Minimum of eight years in product development of medical devices and/or oral care products; experience in Professional Dental Products market preferred.
  2. Understanding of materials science, including properties, testing methods, and manufacturing processes. Experience with restorative and preventative dental products is a plus.
  3. Experience with experimental design, data analysis, and reviewing scientific literature.
  4. Ability to interpret technical data related to physical and performance testing of materials and therapeutic formulations.
  5. Familiarity with current FDA device regulations.
  6. Strong problem-solving skills, data collection, and analysis abilities.
  7. Project management experience with a track record of completing projects successfully.
  8. Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  9. Ability to troubleshoot and develop solutions during development.
  10. Collaborative and open working style.
  11. Energetic and enthusiastic approach to work.
  12. Willingness to travel within the United States; limited international travel.

Education :

PhD or Master's Degree in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field with a focus on polymer science. PhD preferred.
