Job description

Reports to the VP of New Product Development and is fully remote within the continental US. Occasional trips to the HQ in Plymouth Meeting, PA, are expected.

Position summary :

A Product Development Materials Engineer supports research and development of new dental materials, product enhancements, and redesigns focused on materials used in restorative and preventative dentistry. Responsibilities include planning and coordinating testing, analyzing data, and collaborating with external partners and teams to ensure materials meet clinical, safety, and market standards. This role requires exercising independent judgment. This job description provides an overview but is not exhaustive of all duties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Developing new products based on customer needs and business strategies.
  • Designing and optimizing dental material compositions for performance and biocompatibility.
  • Managing projects, analyzing data, and preparing performance reports.
  • Negotiating research contracts with external entities.
  • Collaborating with dental professionals for user evaluations.
  • Staying informed on advancements in dental materials science.
  • Contributing to patent development and protection.
  • Refining manufacturing processes for quality and scalability.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance (FDA, ISO) during development.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring products to market.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS :

  • At least eight years in medical device or oral care product development; experience in Professional Dental Products preferred.
  • Strong understanding of materials science, including testing and manufacturing processes, especially for restorative and preventative dental products.
  • Experience with experimental design, data analysis, and reviewing scientific literature.
  • Ability to interpret technical data related to materials and formulations.
  • Knowledge of FDA device regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving and data collection skills.
  • Project management experience with a proven track record of completing projects.
  • Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and develop solutions during product development.
  • Collaborative and open working style.
  • Energetic and accountable attitude.
  • Willingness to travel within the US; limited international travel.

EDUCATION :

PhD or Master’s Degree in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field with a focus on polymer science. PhD preferred.
