The Product Development Manager is responsible for taking new Matcha products from concept to market and owning their performance after launch. This role covers the full product lifecycle: creation, formulation, production coordination, launch, and ongoing optimization. With a goal of one new product per quarter, this role requires someone who can manage multiple products in motion simultaneously without losing the detail or discipline each one demands.
This is an execution-focused role. Matcha has the research and direction in place. What this role brings is the ownership and follow-through to ensure new products are built right, launched on time, and continuously improved after they hit the market.
Key Responsibilities
Product Creation & Formulation
- Own new product development from initial brief through formulation and production-readiness.
- Coordinate with suppliers, co-manufacturers, and internal teams to bring products to life on schedule and to spec.
- Ensure all formulation decisions are documented, traceable, and aligned with Matcha’s quality and brand standards.
Launch Planning & Execution
- Own the go-to-market plan for each new product: timing, channel priorities, and cross-functional readiness.
- Coordinate with Marketing, Sales, and Operations to ensure every launch is well-supported end-to-end.
- Maintain a launch calendar that keeps the team aligned and accountable to the quarterly product cadence.
Post-Launch Management & Optimization
- Monitor product performance after launch: sales, customer feedback, and operational issues.
- Identify opportunities to optimize pricing, packaging, formulation, or positioning based on real-world results.
- Ensure products remain profitable, well-stocked, and competitive well after launch day.
- Maintain a clear, up-to-date view of the full product pipeline across all stages of development.
- Track milestones, flag risks early, and keep leadership informed on progress and blockers.
- Sustain the pace of one new product per quarter by keeping each product moving without unnecessary delays.
Supportive Products & Brand Collaborations
- Provide guidance and support on supportive product lines — accessories, merch, and brand collaborations — where Ches leads day-to-day execution.
- Partner with Ches, who takes point on the ins and outs of these products, lending product-development expertise and direction under the Chief Brand Officer’s guidance.
- Help ensure supportive products meet the same quality, timeline, and brand standards as the core product line, without owning their delivery.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as the central point of contact for new product development across teams.
- Work closely with Operations and Supply Chain on production timelines, inventory planning, and sourcing.
- Partner with Marketing and Sales to align launches with brand and commercial goals.
What We’re Looking For
Required
- 3–5+ years owning products or projects end-to-end, ideally in CPG, food & beverage, or supplements.
- A track record of personal ownership: you’ve been accountable for a product or program’s outcomes, not just its tasks.
- Fluent with data: you can pull, read, and act on performance data (sales, margin, inventory) and defend decisions with numbers.
- Consistently hits quantitative targets set with leadership — launch cadence, margin, and revenue goals.
- Strong project management: you keep multiple workstreams moving on schedule and flag risks before they become a problem.
- Comfortable coordinating suppliers and co-manufacturers; familiarity with formulation and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA labeling and claims) a plus.
Nice to Have
- Experience with accessories, merch, or brand collaborations.
- Familiarity with Shopify and DTC operations.
