Job summary

Ford is seeking an Internal Propulsion Thermal Systems Engineering (IPTSE) Design and Release Engineer on the Inline Engine Powerpack Team. You will design, develop and release engine components, lead issue resolution, translate requirements into targets and manage verification testing to Ford GPDS milestones.

You will travel to plants and supplier sites, collaborate across teams, apply Six Sigma/tools as needed, and contribute to quality, cost and weight goals in a dynamic, global environment.

Qualifications

  • BS in mechanical engineering or related field required.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Willingness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and release systems, subsystems, and components to meet program requirements and timing.
  • Lead or support resolution of design, manufacturing, quality, and launch issues.
  • Translate customer, regulatory, and product requirements into targets, drawings and specifications.
  • Plan, coordinate, execute and analyze verification testing to targets.
  • Direct and guide suppliers to meet program objectives through CPMT meetings.
  • Analyze feedback on performance and implement improvements (design and process).
  • Lead or support TVM cost reduction activities.
  • Travel to Ford plants, facilities and supplier sites for issue resolution and build support.

In this position...

This position is for an Internal Propulsion Thermal Systems Engineering (IPTSE) Design and Release(D&R) Engineer on the Inline Engine Powerpack Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for design and release activities associated with engine components on current and forward model applications.

What you'll do...
  • Design, develop and release systems, subsystems, and components which meet program requirements and timing in accordance with Ford GPDS milestones.
  • Lead / Support resolution of all design, manufacturing, quality, and launch issues.
  • Translate customer, regulatory, and product requirements into engineering targets, drawings, and specifications.
  • Plan, coordinate, execute and analyze verification testing to established targets.
  • Direct and guide suppliers to ensure program objectives are met through effective CPMT meetings.
  • Analyze customer feedback on system or component performance and identify improvements (design and process) and implement prevent reoccurrence.
  • Lead / Support TVM cost reduction activities.
  • Travel as necessary to Ford Assembly Plants/Facilities and Suppler/Sub-Supplier sites for issue resolution and build support.

  • BS in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred
  • MS in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Prior D&R experience. Proven delivery of balanced Quality, Cost, Weight and Functional attributes for components / sub-systems.
  • Utilization of Six Sigma tools & problem-solving tools. (8D’s, 3 legged 5 Why’s, etc.)
  • Knowledge of functions and components of an internal combustion engine
  • Knowledge of GD&T / dimensional control, PPAP and APQP principals.
  • Prior experience executing effective quality documentation (i.e. FMEA’s, Control Plans, SCCAF’s, etc.)
  • Knowledge of GD&T / dimensional control, PPAP and APQP principals.
  • Basic knowledge of NVH, Materials, Durability, and Manufacturing processes

This position is a salary grade 6-8 and ranges from $74,300 - $166,200.
