We bring innovative, exciting, and sustainable ideas to life. We have opportunities around the world for you to contribute to advancements in autonomy, electrification, smart mobility technologies, and more!

In this position Ford's Generator Systems Engineering team is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to lead the integration and development of Inverter and Generator systems for next-generation Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) applications.

This role will serve as the technical lead responsible for defining, managing, and delivering system-level requirements and interfaces between the inverter, generator, vehicle controls, and vehicle architecture teams. The successful candidate will work closely with Tier 1 suppliers and cross-functional engineering organizations to develop robust, high-quality electrified propulsion solutions from concept through production launch.

The ideal candidate is an experienced electrified propulsion systems engineer with strong technical expertise in Inverter systems, Power electronics, high-voltage integration, and supplier management.

The PD Engineer is responsible for managing product release CAD and BOM structures, including assembly positioning and mass attribute analysis. This role also includes facilitating supplier data integration and developing CAD studies to support and drive design improvements. The PD Engineer is expected to understand and effectively utilize product check-in/check-out processes, version control, data release, and change management within Ford’s PLM ecosystem. The PD Engineer will perform feasibility analyses using CAD tools, including draft angle analysis, undercut detection, minimum bend radius validation for sheet metal, and clearance checks to support manufacturing and machining requirements.

What you'll do
  • Lead system integration of generator system (specifically Inverter sub-system, Power Electronics) within current and future EREV vehicle architectures.
  • Lead cross-functional technical reviews and drive resolution of engineering issues impacting cost, quality, timing, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with Tier 1 suppliers to develop, review, and mature inverter and generator designs to meet program objectives.
  • Define, manage, and maintain inverter-to-generator interfaces, including electrical, thermal, mechanical, controls, communication, and packaging requirements.
  • Develop and execute system-level Design Verification Plans (DVP&R) and ensure requirements traceability throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Work closely with Controls, EMC, Cooling, Packaging, NVH, Manufacturing, Service, and Vehicle Engineering teams to ensure successful system integration.
  • Evaluate and manage high-voltage interfaces including HV connectors, busbars, cabling, grounding, shielding, and serviceability requirements.
  • Lead system DFMEA activities and ensure linkage to component DFMEAs, validation plans, and corrective actions.
  • Drive root cause analysis and resolution of issues using data-driven engineering methods.
  • Support prototype builds, vehicle integration activities, launch readiness reviews, and production implementation.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship within the electrified propulsion and generator systems engineering team.

You’ll have...

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.

5+ years of engineering experience in inverter systems, eDrive systems, power electronics and/or electrified propulsion systems.

Even better, you may have...

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.

Strong understanding of inverter architecture, operating principles, controls, communication, and power electronics integration.

Proven experience leading system engineering activities from concept through production launch.

Experience developing and executing DVP&R plans and supporting verification and validation activities.

Experience working directly with Tier 1 suppliers to develop, review, and release technical solutions.

Strong understanding of high-voltage electrical systems including HV connectors, busbars, cabling, grounding, and shielding.
