Job summary

Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI is seeking a Product Development Engineer for Internal Propulsion Thermal Systems. You will design, develop and release ICE subsystems, manage CAD/BOM structures, and lead cross-functional teams from concept through validation and production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of internal combustion engine component and system/subsystem D&R experience.
  • D&R Engineer manages CAD and BOM structures, including assembly positioning and mass attribute analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)
  • Knowledge of FMEA’s, Control Plans, and DV/PV Plans.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and Dimensional Control (SPC, Statistics, Etc.)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and background.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and release ICE subsystem and components meeting program requirements and timing.
  • Lead / Support resolution of design, manufacturing, quality, and launch issues.
  • Create, complete, and approve supplier and Ford engine DVPs and oversee testing for robust validation.
  • Support program meetings (EPMT, Design Review, DPMT, change control).
  • Lead drawing release and changes.
  • Interface with Calibration, mating components, Purchasing, suppliers, and manufacturing plants.
  • Prototype Build coordination: assign forward model part numbers and ensure fit/function.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and STA to resolve quality issues; travel as needed.
  • Coordinate WERS (Worldwide engineering release system) activities and 8D actions.
  • Develop CPMT documents and quality records for sub-system responsibilities.
  • Create and approve DV/PV test plans and oversee testing for validation.
  • Lead/Support warranty reduction and cost-reduction ideas.
  • Lead/Support change control activities.

Engineering position utilizing education and experience to design and release combustion engine components. This D&R position focusses on design, development, release, and part validation with emphasis on internal combustion engines. In this position the engineer will be part of the Nano V6 Powerpack team to deliver new forward model program milestones and hardware delivery from concept through production implementation as well as current model quality and cost efficiency actions.

Responsibilities

What you'll do...

  • Design, develop and release ICE subsystem and components which meet program requirements and timing in accordance with Ford GPDS milestones.
  • Lead / Support resolution of all design, manufacturing, quality, and launch issues.
  • Create, complete, and approve supplier and Ford engine DVPs and oversee testing in support of robust validation.
  • Support all program meetings (EPMT, Design Review, DPMT, change control, etc.).
  • Lead drawing release and changes.
  • Interface with Calibration, mating components, Purchasing, suppliers, and mfg./assembly plants.
  • Prototype Build coordination: load forward model part numbers into system and ensure fit and function.
  • Work directly with suppliers, Supplier Technical Assistance (STA), and launch teams to support programs and resolve quality issues, including travel both domestic and international when required.
  • WERS (Worldwide engineering release system) coordination; alerts, Concerns and SREA processing.
  • Develop and maintain CPMT documents, including appropriate quality documents (ESOW, DFMEA, FEDE, e3P, SCCAF’s, Global Integrator, OPTEX, PPAP & PSW’s, 543 Chart etc.) for program specific sub-system responsibilities.
  • Create, complete, and approve supplier and internal DV/PV test plans and oversee testing in support of robust validation.
  • Lead/Support warranty reduction and issue resolution using a structured 8D documented approach.
  • Lead/Support TVM cost reduction idea generation and implementation.
  • Lead/Support change control activities.
  • Travel as necessary to Ford Assembly Plants/Facilities and Suppler/Sub-Supplier sites for issue resolution and build support.
Qualifications

You'll have...

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • 2+ years of internal combustion engine component and system/subsystem D&R experience.
  • The D&R Engineer is responsible for managing product release CAD and BOM structures, including assembly positioning and mass attribute analysis. This role also includes facilitating supplier data integration and developing CAD studies to support and drive design improvements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)
  • Knowledge of FMEA’s, Control Plans, and DV/PV Plans
  • Knowledge of GD&T and Dimensional Control (SPC, Statistics, Etc.)

This position is a salary grade 6-8 and ranges from $74,300 - $166,200.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
