Job summary

Ford in Dearborn is seeking a Systems Engineer for electrified powertrains to drive system-level design and validation. You will work on coordinating modules, validating with CAN data, and supporting safety tasks across hybrid and electric powertrains.

The role emphasizes collaboration across experts and rigorous testing to deliver reliable performance. Expect opportunities in system simulation, SIL testing, and leveraging Ford LLM tools for task acceleration while contributing to a leading EV

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years’ experience in control system design or calibration.
• 3+ years' experience with vehicle systems and/or vehicle level attributes.
• 3+ years' of experience in powertrain systems, components and electrified vehicles.
• Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink and CAN tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop Electrified Powertrain Control System work products coordinating modules and subsystems.
• Perform system level testing in-vehicle, on breadboard, or SIL/HIL.
• Analyze vehicle CAN data and ECU diagnostics.
• Submit CAN Network Interface Design (NID) requests for CAN signal identification.
• Support Functional Safety tasks as needed.
• Investigate root causes of launch/quality issues and drive resolutions.
• Review software implementation code and scripts.

Core Position Duties:

• Develop Electrified Powertrain Control System work products that coordinate actions and functions between modules and subsystems to meet vehicle level and Feature attributes such as:
  • Functional requirements
  • Quality Documents (Boundary Diagrams, FMEA, P-Diagram, Interface Matrix)
  • Design Validation Method (DVM) – Test Specification
  • Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R) – Test Report
• Perform System level testing in vehicle, on breadboard or using Software/Hardware in the Loop
• Analyze vehicle CAN communication data and ECU diagnostics
• Submit CAN Network Interface Design (NID) requests to identify CAN signals transmitted and received by the Hybrid Powertrain Control Modules (HPCM)
• Support Functional Safety tasks where necessary
• Support/Drive control system quality/field issue root cause investigation and issue resolution
• The engineer will join a diverse team of subject matter experts in analyzing the functional design, failure modes, error states, noises and control factors for Hybrid and Electric powertrains.
• Review software implementation code

You’ll have…

• Bachelors of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• 3+ years’ experience in control system design or calibration
• 3+ years' experience with vehicle systems and/or vehicle level attributes
• 3+ years' of experience in powertrain systems, components and electrified vehicles

• Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
• Troubleshooting experience with mechanical, electromechanical and software systems
• Ability to manage/resolve urgent launch/Quality concerns

• Very effective ability to explain technical details and gain alignment and consensus on solutions.
• Understanding of programing languages and tools (C , Matlab, Simulink etc)

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $97,140-162,540.,

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $113,580-190,500.
