Job summary

KLA in Totowa, NJ is seeking a Product Development Engineer to join the System Engineering group within the Engineering Technology team. You will conceptualize, develop and test the next generation of devices for chemical analysis, including microfluidic dispensing and spectrophotometric measurement.

You will analyze requirements, evaluate technologies, design concepts, perform testing and reporting, and collaborate with internal KLA groups and external suppliers.

Qualifications

Job Summary

Successful Product Development Engineer will work in the System Engineering group based in Totowa, NJ, within the Engineering Technology team. The engineer will conceptualize, develop and test the next generation of devices that advance chemical analysis technology—covering microfluidic dispensing, spectrophotometric measurement, and more. Responsibilities include requirements analysis, theoretical evaluation of available technologies, identification of gaps, conceptual design, testing and reporting, and active collaboration with internal KLA groups and external suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Work with Applications, R&D, and engineering to define requirements and develop specifications for the chemical analysis process.
• Develop improvement plans and test plans required to meet requirements, driving vendors to execute those plans.
• Evaluate and test to validate materials used for devices or new designs, ensuring compatibility with the chemistry used in the application.
• Conceptualize and bring to fruition new device designs when none exist.
• Define the requirements, the gaps the device fills, error budget, and constraints.
• Engage with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering groups to review designs and test plans.
• Create and execute test plans, performing analysis to validate device or system performance.
• Troubleshoot system and subsystem issues, collaborating with various subsystem teams to implement solutions.
• Support internal and external customers in implementing processes to build and use the tool effectively, optimizing tool performance.
• Lead advanced troubleshooting efforts in manufacturing and in the field.
• Occasional domestic and international travel (< 20%) may be required.

Qualifications

• Master’s level degree (or equivalent experience) or Bachelor’s level degree with at least 2 years of related work experience.
• Experience with electrical design ecosystems such as OrCAD PCB, Altium, PADS, or Eagle; exposure to SI/PI or simulation tools is a plus.
• Familiarity with AC power distribution, industrial equipment cabling, interlocks, and serviceability‑driven design.
• Exposure to PLC/control systems, motion control, sensors, and system‑level debugging of integrated mechatronic equipment.
• Comfortable building and executing test plans, analyzing data, and reporting conclusions; MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW experience is a plus.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills for cross‑disciplinary execution and vendor engagement.
• Experience supporting products through manufacturing/field life cycle and writing clear, usable documentation.
