The Product Developer understands shelf-life activities and selects the development of recipes and processes throughout the product cycle. The position requires the ability to formulate new supplement and beverage powder products, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards. Must fully understand the following processes including tunnel pasteurization, hot filling, and retorting.
Be able to create an information panel for a beverage (nutrition facts and ingredient line) and have a basic understanding of the FDA food labeling guidelines.
Understand various ways to extend product shelf life and how to select the processing parameters for different beverage systems (i.e. pasteurization, retort, preservatives).
Have a full understanding of ingredient (colors, flavors, vitamins, minerals, teas, sweeteners, acids, botanicals, sport supplements) solubility and potential interactions.
Begin to understand the regulatory aspects of foods and supplements.
Be able to assist in procurement of ingredients.
Be able to participate in calls and meetings with customers.
Knowledge of Laboratory Operations.
Understand and implement Company Certified programs such as HACCP, NSF, SQF, Food Defense and Food Safety and Food Quality programs as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Food Science or a related field.
Three (3)–Seven (7) years related job experience is required. Beverage Experience is a plus.
Lab safety and proper lab documentation skills required.
Excellent math skills.
Computer proficiency – Microsoft Word and Excel required.
Highly developed verbal and written communications.
Attention to detail, neat and organized.
Strong problem solving.
