Job description

Description
Product Designer, Patient Experience
About Us

At Gifthealth, we're revolutionizing the way people experience healthcare by simplifying the process of managing prescriptions and health services. Our mission is to provide a seamless, personalized, and efficient healthcare experience for all our customers. We're a dynamic, innovative, and customer-centric company dedicated to making a positive impact on people's lives.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Product Designer, Patient Experience to own design end-to-end for Gifthealth's patient-facing surfaces. This position plays a key role in supporting the UX & Design department and reports to the Senior Director of Digital Experience, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, operational excellence, and compliance standards. You'll sit with the PMs and engineers who own the portal, checkout, enrollment, and patient communications, and you'll own the design work for those surfaces: flows, wireframes, high-fidelity UI, prototypes, and the handoff that makes them real. This is a hands-on craft role: most weeks are spent designing, testing, and shipping, not writing strategy docs, but you're expected to push on whether a problem is the right one, get in front of patients to find out, and come back with options rather than one answer you've already fallen in love with. This is an individual-contributor Product Designer role (2-5 years), not a senior seat. You'll have a design lead and a senior designer close by to calibrate the harder calls, and the expectation is that you can take a problem, frame it, design it, and hand it off cleanly without being managed through it.

Key Responsibilities
  • Surface ownership: Design for the Patient Experience surfaces: portal, checkout, enrollment, insurance and access flows, and patient communications.
  • End-to-end design: Own end-to-end design on the work assigned to you: problem framing, flows and IA, wireframes, high-fidelity UI, and every state (empty, loading, error, success, edge cases).
  • Evidence for your decisions: Run lightweight usability tests, watch session recordings, and partner with Research on the bigger questions. Show why the design is the way it is.
  • Prototypes that answer questions: Build fast, get them in front of patients or internal proxies, and change your mind when the evidence says to.
  • Clean handoff: Give engineering work that is ready to build: specs, states, responsive behavior, accessibility annotations. Review the build and hold the fidelity bar.
  • Accessible by default: Treat WCAG AA as the floor. Real inclusivity for elderly and low-tech-literacy patients is the goal.
  • Design system citizenship: Use the design system with judgment, don't fork it, and surface gaps to the system owner instead of working around them.
  • Critique participation: Bring your own work to review early and give useful feedback on others' work.
Qualifications
  • Education: No specific degree required; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
  • Experience: 2-5 years designing digital product, with a portfolio of shipped work: real product, real constraints, real users, not concept pieces or agency comps.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Case studies that show the whole process: what the problem was, what you tried, what the evidence said, what shipped, and what happened after.
    • Solid interaction and visual craft. Clean, usable, consistent. You handle edge cases and responsive behavior without being reminded.
    • End-to-end thinking. You design flows, not screens, and you know where the patient came from and where they go next.
    • Comfortable running your own lightweight usability testing.
    • Strong Figma fundamentals: auto-layout, components, variables, working inside an existing system.
    • Clean engineering handoff and a track record of engineers trusting your files.
    • Hands-on with AI tools in your actual workflow, not just curious about them.
    • Self-directed. You take an ambiguous ask, figure out what “done” looks like, and drive it there.
    • Preferred: Healthcare, healthtech, pharmacy, or another regulated environment.
    • Preferred: Consumer-facing flows where conversion or retention was the goal.
    • Preferred: Experience designing for internal or operational tools alongside consumer surfaces.
    • Preferred: Contribution to a design system, even a small one.
    • Preferred: Motion or prototyping depth (Figma prototyping, Framer, code prototypes).
    • Not required: Managing designers, defining org-level design strategy, or owning the design system. Those sit with the design lead and the senior designer.
Work Environment
  • Location: Hybrid / Remote
  • Schedule: Full-time
  • May require occasional flexibility to review builds or coordinate with engineering across release cycles.
  • Regular meetings with your PM and engineering partners, the design lead, and Research to ensure alignment.
Key Essential Functions
  • Must be able to sit or stand at a workstation and use design tools (e.g., Figma) for extended periods.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with PMs, engineers, Research, and design leadership.
  • Must be able to run and participate in usability testing sessions, including engaging directly with patients or internal proxies.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively across time zones with distributed Product, Engineering, and Design partners.
