Job summary

JOST International is seeking a Product Designer to develop high-precision 3D models and detailed drawings from sketches and customer layouts. You will drive design quality, adhere to ASME standards, and support cross-functional teams across manufacturing, quality, and sales.

The role requires strong Creo skills, PLM and ERP experience, and the ability to lead design work with minimal supervision. Some travel is possible, and familiarity with DFMEA/APQP is a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years in mechanical design with attention to detail.
• Strong 3D modeling skills; Creo proficiency highly desired.
• Experience with PLM (Pro.File) and SAP (ERP) preferred.
• Knowledge of ASME standards and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Create and improve product designs using PTC Creo, converting sketches and customer layouts into detailed 3D models and drawings.
• Produce high-quality work with high attention to detail, meeting JOST standards without constant review.
• Interpret and follow ASME standards and company design procedures.
• Analyze and determine proper tolerance stack‑up with GD&T for functional assembly, durability and safety.
• Participate in R&D projects to enhance existing product lines and support innovation.
• Utilize Pro.File PLM for product lifecycles, ensuring design data and revisions are controlled.
• Process and release engineering data within SAP to support manufacturing and procurement.
• Provide technical assistance to engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales as needed.
• Some limited travel may be required.
• Act as primary engineering contact for external vendors and internal departments.
• Perform technical peer reviews of drawings and BOM for accuracy and alignment.

Introduction: This position will report to the Design Engineering Manager. It is solely accountable for the fulfillment of all assigned duties and has authority delegated commensurate with assigned responsibilities.

Position Summary: The Product Designer completes assignments that are varied and of considerable scope and complexity. The candidate must be able to understand information provided from specifications, sketches, and customer drawings to create high-precision detailed drawings.

Areas Of Responsibility Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Create and improve product designs using PTC Creo, converting sketches and customer layouts into detailed 3D models and drawings.
• Produce high-quality work with high attention to detail in a timely manner without the constant benefit of a reviewer, ensuring all output meets JOST standards.
• Interpret and follow ASME standards and company quality and design procedures.
• Analyze and determine proper tolerance stack-up within product designs. A working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is highly desired to ensure functional assembly, durability, and safety.
• Participate in R&D projects to enhance existing product lines and support innovation.
• Utilize Pro.File (PLM) for product lifecycles, ensuring all design data, revisions, and technical documentation are accurately stored and controlled.
• Process and release engineering data within SAP (ERP) to support manufacturing and procurement.
• Provide technical assistance to the engineering team and other departments (Manufacturing, Quality, Sales) as needed.
• Some limited travel may be required.
• Perform additional duties logically inherent to the position as assigned.
• Act as the primary engineering point of contact for external vendors and internal departments (Sales, Manufacturing, Quality).
• Perform technical peer reviews of drawings and BOM created by others to ensure accuracy, adherence to ASME standards, and alignment with JOST design procedures before final submission.

Requirements

Requirements:

• Must possess a high attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in technical drawings, BOM, and data entry.
• Strong understanding of 3D modeling techniques and best practices for mechanical design; proficiency in PTC Creo is highly desired.
• Working knowledge of Pro.File (or similar PLM systems) and SAP (or similar ERP systems) is highly preferred.
• Associate degree in design/drafting (or equivalent) plus a minimum of two-year work history in a mechanical design field is desired.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational and analytical skills that focus on meticulous, structured design principles.
• Ability to quickly gain knowledge of company products, design standards, safety protocols, and JOST International Basic Processes.
• A minimum of 5 years of work history in a mechanical design field.
• Ability to lead design assignments of significant scope and complexity with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge and understanding of APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) techniques, including participation in DFMEA.
• Proficiency in applying GD&T principles and performing complex tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure functional assembly and safety.
• Proven ability to manage the full product lifecycle within Pro.File (PLM) and execute production data entry within SAP (ERP) with high accuracy and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements

• Work is generally performed in an office setting.
• Regularly required to sit, see, and hear; frequently required to walk, reach, stoop, bend, twist, and stand.
• Occasionally required to lift or move objects up to 50 pounds (e.g., product prototypes or testing components).
