Job summary

Baseten is seeking a Product Designer to shape the next generation of our platform. You'll join a small design team with ownership, tackling hard problems for technical users across the product, from early exploration to production.

You'll establish patterns, evolve our design system, and raise the quality bar as Baseten scales. This role demands strong visual and interaction skills, collaboration with engineers and customers, and a fast prototype-early mindset.

• Work directly with engineering and product to frame problems, explore solutions, and ship quickly.
• Collaborate with customers to understand workflows, validate ideas, and test prototypes.
• Push the visual and interaction quality of the Baseten product across surfaces.
• Create interactions and details that make complex technical workflows clear, fast, and polished.
• Evolve our design system and establish patterns that scale across a growing product.
• Look across the product for opportunities to improve consistency, usability, and overall quality.
• Get into the code with engineers to polish UI and ensure the shipped experience matches the design.
• Help shape how the design team works and raise the bar for product quality across the company.

THE ROLE

Baseten is looking for a Product Designer to help shape the next generation of our platform. You'll join a small design team with a lot of ownership and a high bar for craft, working across the entire Baseten product to solve hard problems for technical users.

This role covers the full arc of the work: early exploration through production. You'll establish patterns that show up across the product, evolve our design system, and raise the quality bar as we scale.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead product design end to end, including research, product definition, prototypes, design reviews, specs, and final implementation.

REQUIREMENTS

• A portfolio that demonstrates strong visual and interaction design.
• Experience designing complex, technical, or developer-focused products.
• Ability to take an ambiguous problem, understand the underlying customer need, explore multiple approaches, and drive to a strong solution.
• Deep attention to typography, layout, hierarchy, interaction, and systems.
• Experience working directly with engineers and customers, without layers of process in between.
• A fast, prototype-early working style that uses what you learn to iterate.
• Ability to think beyond individual features and improve patterns and systems across a product.
• Comfort with technical tools like Git and VS Code, and interest in working directly in React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Strong product and design judgment, with the ability to articulate why something is good, what could be better, and when the work is ready to ship.
