As a Product Designer, you will partner with Product, Engineering, and Content to bring insight, user experience, and research forward, to turn ideas into working prototypes and scalable design systems. You will also conduct user research to understand how customers are using the product, understand competitive products, and help build a more intuitive and distinguished platform. You will be a strategic partner, working across the organization to optimize and enhance the user experience across all of AOEU’s products and services.

The Details
Essential Functions
- Know our customers and products inside and out. Inspire others to a similar depth of knowledge - and use customer/product insights to guide product decisions.
- Analyze, hypothesize, and test opportunities to enhance the user experience and maximize customer value.
- Work with Product, Content, and Engineering to design simple, elegant, delightful user experiences and workflows.
- Coordinate with Product, Content, and Engineering teams to identify product improvement opportunities and translate them into actionable development requirements.
- Partner with creative, marketing, and content designers on strategic design principles that unify and amplify the AOEU brand.
- Work with Graphic Design to create illustrations, animations, and other rich experiences.
- Utilize motion design to bring prototypes to life through animation and micro-interactions.
- Make strategic design and user-experience decisions, balancing business strategy while advocating for our users to create a holistic experience.
- Work with content and engineering teams providing support through the full process, including ideation, research, user stories, requirements, and testing to ensure that acceptance criteria are met before release.
- Design experiences for district leaders, helping them to drive impact and discover value.
- Embrace AI as a design partner and tool to improve and advance the product experience for district leaders, teachers, and students.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- 5+ years of experience as a UX/UI designer across product, web, e-commerce, or application design
- A diverse portfolio demonstrating both individual and team project work
- Ability to work independently as well as seek mentorship and critique
- Sketch, prototype, create, and refine low-to-high fidelity prototypes from concept to ready-for-engineering
- Ability to document complex business processes and user journeys.
- A solid grasp of user-centered design (UCD), planning, and conducting user research and A/B testing.
- Strategic ability: anticipate future opportunities and consequences, demonstrated innovative approach to work.
- Proven experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
- Ability to utilize, maintain, and expand our design systems based on current understanding of best practices
- Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects
- Ability to quickly learn various technology platforms and new applications with ease and confidence.
- Strong typography, composition, and illustration skills.
- Ability to execute creative design solutions while staying on brand.
- Ability to communicate clearly (oral, written, and video) the thinking behind design choices.
- Organization and project management skills.
- Ability to recognize stakeholder needs and modify strategies to meet those needs.
- Comfortable understanding of HTML / CSS, and other technical frameworks.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed, up to 10%

EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
Experience
- Five or more years of professional UX design experience
- Experience working in a remote capacity preferred

- Ability to view computer screens for significant periods of time. The Art of Education University is an online university therefore 95-98% of one’s time will be on or using technology.
- Ability to use a laptop keyboard with accuracy.

The Process
For Most Roles, The Process Is As Follows
- Step 1: ~30-minute phone interview with the hiring manager
- Step 2: Round 2 packet & Interview
- Given that AOEU is 100% remote, this step is intended to see how you might work through some of the daily tasks, responsibilities, and challenges that could arise in this role. You will be given a prompt and be asked to complete an assignment which will then be used to guide a ~1 hour follow-up Zoom interview with 1-2 stakeholders. The intention is for you to get a sense of the role and give us an opportunity to see your skills in action. Your answers will not be used for any other purposes beyond evaluating your candidacy.
- Step 3: Follow-up interview
- For certain managerial or high-collaboration roles, you may be asked to participate in an additional Zoom interview.
