Our client is seeking a Data Product Owner to lead priorities for a team of 10–12 data professionals supporting a large-scale financial data transformation initiative. This person will act as the bridge between Finance, Operations, and Technology, translating business needs into clear direction for data engineers. While this is not a formal people-management role, the Data Product Owner will guide the team’s workload, facilitate grooming sessions, and drive delivery.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Finance, Operations, and Technology stakeholders to understand data needs and translate them into actionable requirements.
- Lead backlog grooming and refinement sessions while establishing priorities for the data engineering team.
- Provide day-to-day direction to a team of approximately 10–12 professionals without having formal direct reports.
- Establish standards for data ownership, quality, consistency, and appropriate use.
- Support Master Data Management initiatives involving client, product, and securities data.
- Define and document data models, mappings, lineage, metadata, business rules, and data-quality controls.
- Collaborate with data engineers and architects working in Snowflake environments.
- Resolve data-quality, ownership, and governance issues across business and technical teams.
- Present recommendations, priorities, and project updates to senior stakeholders.
- Support the adoption of enterprise data-governance tools and processes.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in data governance, data management, data stewardship, data product ownership, or a related discipline.
- Professional experience within banking, financial services, Treasury, or capital markets.
- Strong knowledge of Master Data Management, data quality, data governance, and data stewardship.
- Experience with data mapping, modeling, lineage, metadata, and business glossaries.
- Experience translating business requirements into technical deliverables for data engineering teams.
- Familiarity with Snowflake or a comparable enterprise data platform.
- Experience managing product backlogs, facilitating grooming sessions, and prioritizing technical work.
- Strong communication, presentation, and cross-functional stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Collibra, Erwin, Informatica, or comparable governance and data-modeling tools.
- Previous hands-on experience with conceptual or physical data modeling.
- Experience supporting government-focused financial programs.
- Background in large-scale data transformation or modernization initiatives.
