Job summary

Perplexity, based in San Francisco, seeks a practical attorney for the Product, Privacy and Regulatory Legal team. This role centers on consumer protection with flexibility across product counseling, privacy, regulatory matters, marketing, subscriptions, and international expansion.

You will own matters independently, advise on complex product features, respond to regulators, and collaborate with Product, Engineering, Growth, Marketing, Support, Security, GRC, Policy, and Communications.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school or LL.M./equivalent.
• At least five years of relevant legal experience with consumer protection/product counseling.
• Strong command of U.S. consumer protection law and enforcement principles.
• Experience in subscriptions, advertising, privacy, data protection, AI governance, or related areas.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary legal partner for consumer products from design through launch and post-launch review.
• Advise on consumer protection issues including pricing, renewals, refunds, promotions, and advertising claims.
• Review marketing, growth, adtech, and martech initiatives and product claims.
• Counsel on privacy, data use, consent, retention, security, and AI transparency requirements.
• Lead cross-functional launches and translate requirements into practical product decisions.
• Support responses to regulators and consumer complaints globally.
• Monitor AI regulatory developments and tailor guidance and playbooks.
• Build scalable legal infrastructure, templates, and training.
