Job summary

Blue Zones Health seeks a Product Builder for Operations to translate operational pain points into practical tools and automations. You will prototype and ship internal tooling, collaborating with SMEs and data teams while ensuring HIPAA compliance and data security.

You will sit with subject matter experts, understand end-to-end workflows across claims, health plan reporting, and authorizations, and partner with engineering to deliver practical, proactive solutions that reduce friction.

Qualifications

Traditional healthcare operations often rely on manual handoffs, siloed spreadsheets, and reactive firefighting after a process breaks down – whether in claims, health plan reporting, or authorizations. We want operational tooling to be proactive, integrated, and built directly around the real-world needs of our teams.

For every operational workflow, the organization should understand where bottlenecks exist, what manual tasks can be automated, and how data and systems can connect seamlessly. The Product Builder function creates and maintains that agility.

Operations works as part of a broader clinical and administrative learning system. Product building helps automate repetitive tasks and surface clean data. Operations manages claims, reporting, and authorizations. Engineering handles core platform scaling. The goal is not simply building software for software's sake—it is to eliminate friction so our teams can focus entirely on helping people live longer, healthier lives.

Position Summary

Blue Zones Health is building a different kind of healthcare organization—one that combines excellent clinical care with lifestyle medicine, prevention, well-being, and community to help people live longer, healthier lives.

The Product Builder, Operations leads the hands-on technical execution of internal workflows across claims, health plan reporting, authorizations, and related IPA operations. This isn't quite a forward-deployed engineer role and it isn't a traditional PM role. This role is for someone who can sit with a subject matter expert, understand a workflow end to end, and build or define the tool, fix, or light report that actually solves it.

The Product Builder translates ambiguous operational pain points into concrete specs, prototyping and shipping small internal tools, automations, and workflow fixes using AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code. Working closely with the Director of Product, operational subject matter experts, data teams, and engineering, the Product Builder helps make technical agility an integrated part of how Blue Zones Health operates rather than a distant, backlogged ticket queue.

Key Responsibilities

• Operational Discovery & Workflow Translation
• Partner with subject matter experts across claims, health plan reporting, authorizations, and other IPA operations to deeply understand workflows end-to-end.
• Translate ambiguous operational pain points into concrete specs, then build or coordinate the build of the right solution.
• Dig into data to answer your own questions using whatever tools get you there fastest, looping in the data team for deeper analysis or complex reporting when needed.
• Maintain a clear line of sight between technical solutions, operational efficiency, and organizational goals.
• Prototyping & Hands-On Building
• Use Claude Code and other AI-assisted development tools to prototype and/or ship small internal tools, automations, and workflow fixes.
• Identify where manual, repeatable ops work can be automated; build simpler automations yourself and partner with engineering on anything more technical.
• Embrace a bias toward building the thing rather than waiting for a perfect spec.
• Ensure all builds maintain strict adherence to HIPAA requirements and PHI security practices.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration & Systems Integration
• Work across SharePoint, Notion, and our internal platform to keep documentation, data, and workflows connected rather than siloed.
• Partner closely with the Director of Product, operational teams, and engineering to align internal tooling with broader organizational roadmaps.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, gathering requirements and pushing back constructively when necessary.
• Foster a culture where operational problems are met with creative, builder-first problem solving.

Budgeted Compensation: $120,000-$160,000

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 3–5 years of experience in an operations, technical PM, or product-builder-type role.
• Genuine comfort with data—ability to look at a dataset and reason about it across spreadsheets, scripts, or queries.
• Hands-on experience or genuine comfort working in Claude Code or similar AI-assisted dev tools to build real things.
• Strong understanding of HIPAA requirements and PHI security practices.
• Demonstrated ability to work directly with subject matter experts to translate real operational workflows into working tools.
• Deep curiosity about how workflows and systems actually work, not just what they're supposed to do.
• Familiarity with product thinking and frameworks (e.g., opportunity solution trees) applied practically.
• Strong stakeholder communication skills, comfortable presenting to and collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with claims processing, IPA operations, or health plan reporting.
• Experience working in delegated health systems and value-based care models.
• Familiarity with EZ-CAP or similar core administrative health systems.
• Broader healthcare or regulated industry experience.
• Analytical or scientific background (e.g., a field that trained you to reason rigorously about data).
