Job summary

KGW in Portland, OR seeks an innovative Producer to shape daily newscasts across platforms, balancing storytelling with timely delivery. This role emphasizes original reporting, fairness, and audience engagement, with potential morning or weekend shifts.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of news content experience, strong journalism ethics, and the ability to manage live, breaking events while collaborating with a team and using ENPS/Edius.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2 years of news content experience, preferably as a newscast producer.
• Strong communication skills are essential.
• Sound journalistic judgement with focus on accurate, fair local content and community engagement.
• Knowledge of journalism ethics.
• Experience producing engaging, content-driven newscasts and digital content.
• Strong social media presence on preferred platforms.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Experience with live, breaking news coverage.

KGW, the NBC affiliate in Portland, OR is seeking an innovative Producer to shape our daily newscasts. At KGW, we build newscasts that engage, educate and inform our audiences. We prioritize original storytelling and investigative journalism as key components of our newscasts to set our product apart in the Portland market. We value a collaborative, motivated journalist who works well within a team to bring the truth to our growing audiences across platforms, including streaming, broadcast and mobile. This position may involve morning or weekend shifts.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree preferred in journalism, communications, or related field or equivalent years of experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of news content experience, preferably as a newscast producer.
• Strong communication skills are an absolute must.
• Solid journalistic judgement and a news philosophy that emphasizes accurate, fair, and unique local content, along with community engagement.
• Understanding of the ethics of professional journalism.
• Skills in producing engaging, content-driven newscasts and digital content.
• Strong social media skills, including an active newshound presence on your preferred social platforms.
• Organizational skills and the ability to work under time-pressure deadlines.
• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events.
• ENPS and Edius experience preferred.
