Qualifications

• Understand key components of department operations (managing people, merchandising, computer-assisted ordering, inventory management, shrink control, etc.).
• Strong written and verbal communication with staff, customers, and supervision.
• Ability to make quick, intelligent decisions under pressure.
• Produce work experience or similar experience in food preparation.
• Past work record reflects dependability and integrity.

Responsibilities

• Develop maximum customer relations by produce dept staff through friendliness and courtesy, and policy implementation.
• Be alert and assist in store security; handle customer complaints.
• Make hiring/firing/discipline recommendations for produce department personnel.
• Indoctrinate department employees so they can read scales and prices correctly.
• Provide training on price marking and customer courtesy.
• Supervise all aspects of salad bar operations.
• Plan efficient schedules for full and part-time staff; maximize efficiency.
• Maintain neat appearance and proper uniforms of department staff.
• Maintain good communication with store personnel.
• Direct receiving, storing, pricing, and merchandising of all produce products.
• Adequately stock supplies; maintain inventories at optimum levels.
• Maintain records and reports and use them effectively.
• Ensure clean and orderly cooler and preparation area; proper waste disposal.
• Keep supplies on hand: bags, pricing and marking equipment, etc.
• Analyze all aspects of the department and recommend changes to the store manager.
• Promote and implement company initiatives to direct reports in a positive manner.
• Be prompt, tactful, calm, courteous, and professional in interactions.
• Manage workloads and resolve conflicts in a cooperative manner.
• Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve issues.
• Provide support to minors, people with special needs, and older adults as needed.
• Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
