Produce Clerk

Primary Responsibilities

1. Greet, assist, and ring out customers politely.
2. Maintain company standards for perishables, stay updated on safety procedures, ensure health and safety codes are met, check pricing and expiration dates, and organize the area.
3. Monitor cooler/freezer temperatures, perform maintenance, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
4. Verify and display products appropriately, ensuring freshness, proper rotation, and attractive presentation.
5. Prepare the backroom for receipt of merchandise, check quality, sort cases, and verify against invoices.
6. Calculate retail prices, update pricing files, and supervise manual price marking when needed.
7. Move damaged or unsalable products for return or markdown.
8. Follow instructions regarding store policies, equipment usage, and safety standards.
9. Lift and carry up to 50 lbs., maintain signage and pricing, and care for store signage and debris.

Supervision

Reports directly to the Produce Department Manager.

Qualifications

1. Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
2. High School Diploma or equivalent.
3. Previous experience with produce in a grocery setting preferred.

Work Environment

Indoor environment with temperature and humidity transitions, including backdoor, cooler, and freezer areas.
