Produce Clerk

Primary Responsibilities

1. Greet, assist, and politely ring out all customers.
2. Maintain company standards for perishables, ensure safety procedures are followed, and monitor health and safety codes, including checking temperatures and expiration dates.
3. Organize and display products effectively, ensuring full displays, proper rotation, and seasonal adjustments.
4. Prepare the backroom for merchandise receipt, verify quality, check invoices, and store stock appropriately.
5. Adjust retail prices, update PLU files, and supervise price labeling.
6. Manage damaged or unsalable products, including returning items to the warehouse and re-processing for sale or markdown.
7. Follow store policies and procedures, including the use of equipment and safety standards.
8. Lift, twist, and carry up to 50 lbs., and maintain signage and cleanliness in the department.

Supervision

Reports directly to the Produce Department Manager.

Qualifications

• Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with produce in a grocery setting preferred.

Physical Tasks

• Lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Maintain signage and organize the department.

Work Environment

Indoor environment with transitions between heat, cold, humidity, and dust, involving backdoor, compressors, coolers, and freezers.
