Produce Clerk

Primary Responsibilities

• Greet, assist, and politely ring out all customers
• Maintain company standards for perishables and stay updated on safety procedures
• Ensure health and safety codes, check pricing and expiration dates, maintain organized areas
• Record and monitor cooler/freezer temperatures and perform maintenance
• Stay current with health and safety standards, and understand cleaning chemicals and equipment
• Adjust product displays to ensure they are full, attractive, rotated, and seasonally appropriate
• Prepare the backroom for receiving merchandise, check for quality and shortages, code-date items, and verify against invoices
• Understand and communicate store policies and equipment usage
• Organize storage areas, verify deliveries, and inspect for damages
• Calculate retail prices, update price files, and supervise labeling without UPCs
• Manage damaged or unsalable products, and handle product returns and markdowns

Supervision: Reports directly to the Produce Department Manager.

Qualifications

• Basic mathematics skills
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience with produce in a grocery setting preferred

Specific Tasks

• Lifting, twisting, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
• Maintain signage and pricing
• Care for signs, banners, and clean work areas

Work Environment

Indoor environment with temperature and humidity transitions, including backdoor, compressors, cooler, and freezer areas.
