Job summary

Peterson-Farms, Inc. in Hart, MI is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead materials management and logistics. You will set directions, manage a team, establish inventory requirements, negotiate vendor contracts, and ensure inventory levels meet production needs.

Reporting to the VP of Manufacturing, you will collaborate with Scheduling, Manufacturing and Engineering to develop material plans, monitor supplier performance, and drive continuous improvement in the purchasing and receiving processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Accounting, or another relevant field.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in management with oversight of materials and logistics, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Establish inventory requirements based on vendor lead time, manufacturing tempo, and new product introductions.
• Partner with Scheduling, Manufacturing and Engineering when developing material and inventory management plans.
• Manage vendor relationships and monitor performance (cost, quality, delivery); source new vendors to obtain best value and minimize risks.
• Review and approve purchase orders and requisitions for materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Apply best practices to inventory management to minimize shrink and errors in order fulfillment.
• Ensure ERP data reliability, manage cycle counting and annual inventory processes.
• Manage packaging and shipping processes with freight carriers and warehousing firms.
• Track and report key metrics to measure material management effectiveness.
• Lead Purchasing, Receiving, Warehouse and Shipping teams; drive continuous improvement.
