Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Corporate Manager of Purchasing or his/her designee, the Procurement Specialist operates within the established organization and departmental policies and procedures. The Procurement Specialist provides procurement process support to Mass General Brigham Customers and Suppliers. Procurement process support includes the tasks outlined in the Principal Duties and Responsibilities section. The Procurement Specialist will have extensive contact with Mass General Brigham Suppliers and Customers (Research, Clinical, and Administrative).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in General Business required. Experience can be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • 2-3 years of related purchasing experience required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for assigned requisitions. Source description requests through existing vendors when possible, utilizing knowledge of Mass General Brigham item files and alternative vendors.
  • Process orders requiring manual intervention, including standing, blanket, bill-only, description-only, new vendor requests, services, independent contractors, and summary orders.
  • Review purchase requisitions for appropriateness concerning budgets and compliance with policies.
  • Identify and select potential sources of services or supplies.
  • Assist in determining if newly suggested vendors are appropriate for addition to the Mass General Brigham Supplier File.
  • Administer purchase orders and transactions from requisition to completion.
  • Utilize computerized/automated materials management systems, including EDI, PeopleSoft, and GHX.
  • Familiarize with product characteristics and functions via reference sources and resources.
  • Follow up and provide feedback on outstanding requisitions.
  • Maintain documentation of sourcing considering price, quality, availability, and delivery.
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of all patient, physician, and hospital information.
  • Communicate professionally with supervisors, management, peers, staff, physicians, and others.
  • Encourage open communication to identify and resolve problems and improve departmental efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Manager of Purchasing or designee.

  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, prioritize, and escalate issues.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team.
  • Knowledge of basic computer systems (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Office) and Mass General Brigham applications (e.g., PeopleSoft, GHX).

Additional Job Details:

Remote work option available.

Location: 399 Revolution Drive.

40 hours/week, Day shift, United States of America.
