Job summary

SMS group USA is seeking a Buyer to source and purchase from our vendor base, negotiate pricing, and ensure competitive delivery times. You will handle requisitions, evaluate vendor quotes, and drive cost savings while supporting engineering and project teams.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree with 1+ year of related experience, strong communication, and hands-on problem-solving abilities; SAP/ERP knowledge is a plus. This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in purchasing, supply chain management, or business administration.
• 1+ year related experience (metals industry preferred).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Hands-on problem solver with a resourceful approach.
• Understanding and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications a plus.
• Proven track record negotiating with vendors.
• Understanding of quality department functions.
• Analytical and organizational skills.
• Proficiency of MS Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point).
• SAP/ERP proficiency a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review customer service, project management, and purchasing requirements and place POs promptly.
• Request and evaluate quotes from vendors to determine best sourcing options.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities within purchasing scope.
• Review CAD drawings to provide best sourcing option in terms of quality, price, and delivery.
• Monitor vendors to improve on-time delivery performance.
• Resolve warranty claims with vendors.
• Execute sourcing activities in compliance with policies and procedures.
• Facilitate resolution of quality issues with vendors.
• Read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Collaborate with internal engineering groups and other departments to answer drawing questions.
• Conduct vendor site visits from the commercial side as needed.
