Scale Microgrid Solutions is seeking a Procurement Manager to own supplier relationships, identify vendors, and drive strategic sourcing across batteries, solar, generators, inverters, and balance-of-system components. You will collaborate with engineering, project delivery, and asset management to ensure supply continuity and cost-effective purchasing.

The role emphasizes negotiating favorable terms, implementing procurement strategies, and expanding procurement software to improve efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in supply chain development or strategic sourcing.
  • Experience vetting vendors for quality and experience.
  • Strong negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engineering collaboration on technical requirements.
  • MBA or engineering background preferred.
  • Experience with distributed energy resources is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own commercial relationships with equipment vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Identify vendors, negotiate terms and prices, develop procurement strategy.
  • Ensure supply availability and support engineering standardization.
  • Collaborate with engineering on technical specs for equipment (batteries, solar, generators, inverters, switchgear).
  • Work with project delivery and asset management on construction and O&M requirements.
  • Negotiate terms using framework agreements to facilitate purchasing activities.
  • Develop sourcing strategies to ensure continuity of supply and manage risks across the supply chain.
  • Drive procurement process efficiency including software implementations.

Job description

The Role

We are looking for a Procurement Manager to own commercial relationships with equipment vendors, contractors, and other service providers across the supply chain and be responsible for identifying vendors, negotiating preferred terms and prices, developing and implementing our procurement strategy, ensuring supply availability, and supporting engineering efforts to standardize designs of distributed energy systems.

You will report to the Sr Director, Procurement and be based in our Ridgewood, NJ headquarters, or our NYC office, near Union Square.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Work with Scale’s engineering team to understand technical requirements for equipment and other components, including battery energy storage, solar PV, generators and generator components, inverters, switchgear, and other balance of system components
  • Work with Scale’s project delivery team to understand construction and engineering requirements for projects and with Scale’s asset management team to understand third-party operations and maintenance service requirements
  • Identify suppliers with conforming equipment specifications and/or capabilities, appropriate quality controls, and bankable performance history
  • Negotiate terms and pricing with suppliers and drive procurement activities utilizing standard framework agreements to facilitate purchasing activities when needed
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies to ensure continuity of supply, managing risks across the supply chain
  • Work with engineering to standardize system designs, implementation, and operations, considering supply chain risks, costs, etc.
  • Shepherd internal teams to resolve cross-functional issues related to equipment, construction, and operations
  • Identify and execute initiatives to increase procurement process efficiency & effectiveness, including implementation of procurement software solutions

The Ideal Candidate

  • 5+ years of supply chain development and/or strategic sourcing experience
  • Experienced vetting vendors for quality and experience
  • Comfortable presenting to and negotiating with local distributors as well as high-level executives
  • Able to influence internal and external teams, with strong negotiation skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and manage risks
  • Able to communicate with diverse stakeholders, including engineering on technical subject matters
  • A background in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering is helpful.
  • An MBA is a plus
  • Experience with distributed energy resources is a plus
