Job description

Procurement Manager – Medical Device Industry

X4 Life Sciences are working with a fast-growing medical device company that is expanding its manufacturing capabilities and looking to hire a Procurement Manager to lead and scale its procurement function.

This is a key leadership role responsible for developing sourcing strategies, strengthening supplier partnerships, improving procurement processes, and ensuring the availability of critical materials required to support increased production output.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in building a scalable procurement operation — improving supplier capacity, reducing supply chain risk, driving cost improvements, and developing a high-performing purchasing team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and develop the procurement team, including resource planning, performance management, hiring, and team growth.
  • Build and execute sourcing strategies aligned with long-term production goals and business growth plans.
  • Evaluate supplier capacity, identify potential risks, and develop alternative sourcing strategies where required.
  • Negotiate supplier agreements covering pricing, lead times, payment terms, capacity commitments, and commercial terms.
  • Develop stronger supplier relationships through strategic agreements, inventory programs, and improved purchasing processes.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, and Quality teams to support supplier qualification and material readiness.
  • Manage supplier performance, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Own procurement metrics including cost savings, supplier performance, delivery reliability, and supply chain risk.
  • Support executive and cross-functional reviews by providing visibility into material availability, supplier performance, and procurement strategy.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years’ experience managing a procurement function or buyer team.
  • Proven experience scaling procurement operations within a complex manufacturing environment.
  • Background working in low-volume, high-complexity industries such as medical devices, aerospace, defense, or capital equipment.
  • Strong experience with supplier negotiations, contracts, sourcing strategies, and commercial agreements.
  • Knowledge of regulated quality environments, including supplier qualification, CAPA, and change control processes.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems to manage purchasing, supplier data, reporting, and material planning.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret procurement data and present insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience implementing supplier improvement programs, blanket orders, Kanban, or vendor-managed inventory.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, A3, or 8D problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience sourcing engineered components, complex assemblies, and long-lead materials.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing medical device organization where procurement will play a critical role in scaling manufacturing operations and supporting future growth.
