Job summary

Core & Main, a leading distributor of water, wastewater, and fire protection products, is seeking a purchasing professional to handle vendor sourcing, price negotiations, and delivery coordination. You will evaluate quotes, place orders, and monitor inventory to ensure timely fulfillment for municipal and contractor customers.

The role emphasizes data-driven purchasing and close vendor collaboration, with opportunities to impact supply chain efficiency at a national level.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in related discipline; certification may be required in some areas.
• 0-2 years of experience in related field (or MS/MA with 0-1 year of experience).
• Working knowledge of computer-based inventory management systems.

Responsibilities

• Review procurement queue and analyze items for potential purchases.
• Ensure material is placed on order and follow up with vendors, sales and customer to confirm delivery, specifications and pricing.
• Coordinate flow of material from vendor to customer in a timely fashion.
• Follow up on order changes, cancellations, process returns and cancellation fees.
• Evaluate daily purchasing reports; prioritize purchase orders by critical need to maximize profit and sales.
• Maintain product line purchasing parameters to ensure daily purchasing reports are accurate as calculated by inventory system.
• Initiate and verify price changes in the inventory system.
• Monitor open orders and update projected delivery dates.
