Job summary

Komatsu in Peoria, IL is seeking a Procurement Engineer to build and manage supplier relationships, ensuring costs, quality, availability, and inventory meet Parts Division goals. You will collaborate with manufacturing plant personnel to align supplier activity with lifecycle service needs and qualified supplier utilization.

The role emphasizes negotiating terms, evaluating supplier performance, and driving total cost of ownership while adhering to Komatsu Way processes.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Business, Mechanical Engineering or 5-7 years' experience in Purchasing or Materials Management. MBA and professional certifications are a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience in materials management and manufacturing processes.
  • Professional level PC and ERP skills.
  • Effective total supply chain negotiator.
  • Makes fact based, data driven decisions.
  • Extreme sense of urgency.
  • Results oriented and committed to delivering results on time, on budget.
  • Knowledge and experience in Komatsu Way processes and principles a plus.
  • Physical requirements: mobility and dexterity to visit sites and operate equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct supplier negotiations related to cost, quality, delivery performance and capacity commitments.
  • Ensure materials and components meet exact specs while staying on budget.
  • Evaluate engineering drawings, BOMs, and product specifications and translate requirements into sourcing strategies and supplier solutions.
  • Audit and qualify suppliers.
  • Negotiate and implement long-term purchasing agreements.
  • Conduct on-site supplier capability assessments.
  • Provide high level expediting as necessary.
  • Counsel poor performing suppliers and take corrective action.
  • Manage projects from concept to implementation, tracking savings and milestones.
  • Conduct Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) modeling, price analysis, and VA/VE.
  • Ensure ethical and legal supplier relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Overview

To build and manage supplier relationships in order to meet or exceed Parts Division goals respective to costs, quality, availability and inventory. Work/collaborate with manufacturing plant personnel to ensure that the supply base understands the need for service parts support beyond manufacturing life cycle as well as the utilization of qualified/certified suppliers.

Scope

Assessing and matching supplier performance capabilities with PMO requirements, negotiating terms and conditions, measuring supplier effectiveness, taking corrective action measures, developing new suppliers and eliminating non-performing or redundant suppliers as allowed under the Corporate Quality Control process.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct supplier negotiations relative to cost, quality, delivery performance and capacity commitments.
  • Ensure technical equipment, raw materials, and specialized components meet exact specifications while staying on budget.
  • Ability to evaluate engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOM), and product specifications and translate the engineering requirements into sourcing strategies and supplier solutions.

  • Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 1-10 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
Hiring Range

At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $78,500 - $98,100. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
