Job description

Company Description: Our client is an industrial-scale data center construction and operations company. They allocate data center opportunities between bitcoin mining and other high performance computing services, such as AI. They continue to develop their pipeline of power capacity at high-quality data center sites, either for bitcoin mining or HPC.

Position Description:

Our client is seeking two highly capable Category Managers to own tactical procurement execution, supplier performance, and commercial management for mission-critical data center equipment. This role is not strategic sourcing in theory — it is hands‑on, high‑accountability procurement execution. Candidates must be comfortable owning commercial documents. This role will also absorb contract management responsibilities, including contract preparation support, redlining, commercial term enforcement, and change management.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct technical-commercial due diligence with Engineering
  • Evaluate: manufacturing capacity, financial stability, lead time reliability, quality track record
  • Support vendor onboarding in coordination with Finance and Legal

Contract & Commercial Management

  • Support drafting and negotiation of supply agreements
  • Manage contract compliance and enforcement
  • Ensure scope clarity and deliverable alignment
  • Lead change order review and negotiation
  • Protect against scope creep and ambiguous inclusions
  • Monitor milestone payments and performance triggers

Purchase Orders & Change Orders

  • Issue and manage POs aligned to contract terms
  • Validate pricing and scope alignment
  • Track COs and commercial impacts
  • Evaluate cost claims and negotiate adjustments
  • Ensure clean documentation for Finance and Cost Engineering

Negotiations & Commercial Strategy

  • Lead pricing negotiations
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities
  • Evaluate alternative suppliers where appropriate
  • Develop leverage strategies in constrained markets
  • Support framework agreements where beneficial
  • Track manufacturing milestones
  • Coordinate with Planning and Construction
  • Participate in factory visits (as required)
  • Ensure testing and FAT readiness

Logistics & Delivery Coordination

  • Identify transportation constraints
  • Align delivery windows with site readiness
  • Mitigate storage and staging risks
  • Track customs or cross‑border issues
  • Partner closely with multiple teams

Deep familiarity with:

Chillers, cooling towers, dry coolers, pumps, heat exchangers, CDUs/LDUs, liquid cooling skids, hydronic distribution systems, and mechanical‑side client components

Fabrication lead times, skid assembly sequencing, testing requirements (pressure, flow, etc.), material volatility (steel, copper), and shipping constraints (oversized equipment)

Qualifications:

  • 8–15+ years in procurement, supply chain, or commercial management
  • Direct experience procuring mechanical/cooling industrial equipment — chillers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, or similar large‑scale industrial or infrastructure equipment
  • Experience managing supplier performance under schedule pressure
  • Comfortable in fast‑track environments

Strongly Preferred:

  • Data center or mission‑critical experience
  • Experience with long‑lead constrained equipment markets
  • Construction‑integrated procurement exposure
  • Contract redlining experience
  • Ability to read drawings and technical specifications

Education & Certifications:

Electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering degree
