Job summary

HirexHire seeks a Procurement Buyer to join a growing cannabis production client’s procurement team. This role focuses on cultivation-related indirect materials, grow supplies, and MRO, while collaborating across Professional Services, IT, Marketing, Facilities, and HR.

You’ll manage POs, source materials, forecast demand, and negotiate favorable terms. Ideal candidates bring 3+ years in procurement, strong vendor management, ERP/MRP experience, and a data-driven approach to optimize inventory

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 3+ years of procurement experience in agriculture, cannabis, CPG, manufacturing or related industries.
• Experience sourcing MRO, cultivation, production, or other operational supplies.
• Strong purchasing, inventory management, supplier relationships, and procurement processes.
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems and inventory management platforms.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills with data-driven decisions.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building across site and corporate teams.
• Proactive and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
• CSCP, CPSM or similar certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage purchase orders from creation through delivery, ensuring accuracy and timely fulfillment.
• Source cultivation supplies, indirect materials, and MRO products with vendors to evaluate pricing and lead times.
• Forecast demand and maintain inventory levels across facilities.
• Develop purchasing strategies to minimize shortages and total cost of ownership.
• Manage supplier relationships and monitor performance in cost, quality, service, and delivery.
• Lead negotiations for bulk and one-time purchases to secure favorable terms.
• Ensure procurement meets quality standards, regulatory requirements, and budgets.
• Serve as subject matter expert for procurement categories, support ERP/MRP configuration and policy compliance.
• Identify and implement process improvements across procurement and logistics.
• Educate stakeholders on procurement processes and best practices.

THE ROLE

Our client is seeking a Procurement Buyer to join their Procurement team and support purchasing activities across assigned cannabis production facilities. This role will own procurement for cultivation-related indirect materials, grow supplies, and MRO while providing additional support across categories such as Professional Services, IT, Marketing, Facilities, and HR. The ideal candidate is a proactive procurement professional with experience in indirect spend, strong vendor management and analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate closely with cultivation, facilities, warehouse, finance, and corporate teams in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Manage purchase orders from creation through delivery, ensuring accuracy, timely fulfillment, and resolution of invoicing or shipment discrepancies.

• Source cultivation supplies, indirect materials, and MRO products while engaging established and site-specific vendors to evaluate pricing, availability, and lead times.

• Partner with cultivation, facilities, warehouse, and inventory teams to forecast demand and maintain appropriate inventory levels across assigned facilities.

• Develop purchasing strategies that minimize shortages, excess inventory, and total cost of ownership while supporting uninterrupted production operations.

• Manage supplier relationships and monitor vendor performance across cost, quality, service, and delivery metrics.

• Lead negotiations for bulk and one-time purchases, using purchasing data and supplier insights to secure favorable pricing and terms.

• Ensure procurement activities meet internal quality standards, regulatory requirements, and budgetary guidelines in partnership with Compliance, QA, and Finance.

• Serve as the subject matter expert for assigned procurement categories, supporting ERP/MRP configuration, training, process adoption, and policy compliance in collaboration with Corporate Procurement.

• Identify and implement process improvements across procurement, logistics, inventory management, and supplier operations to improve efficiency and scalability.

• Educate internal stakeholders on procurement processes, best practices, and compliance requirements while serving as a key partner to site and corporate teams.

WHAT YOU WILL LIKELY NEED

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Agriculture, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

• 3+ years of procurement experience within agriculture, cannabis, CPG, manufacturing, or a related industry, with experience managing indirect spend.

• Experience sourcing MRO, cultivation, production, or other operational supplies.

• Strong understanding of purchasing, inventory management, supplier relationships, and procurement processes.

• Experience working with ERP/MRP systems and inventory management platforms.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to use data to inform purchasing decisions.

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across site and corporate teams.

• Proactive and adaptable approach with the ability to operate independently and navigate an evolving, fast-paced environment.

• CSCP, CPSM, or similar procurement certification is a plus.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must pass any required background checks.

• Must comply with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age.

• Must be approved by state badging agency to work in the cannabis industry.

• Hybrid Role:

Chicago-based employees in-office once a week.

Massachusetts-based employees in-office once per month.
