Job summary

West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas, is seeking a Buyer I to perform entry-level purchasing duties with the purpose of obtaining supplies, equipment and routine services. Under supervision, you will process requisitions, prepare specifications, receive bids, award standard purchases, and issue purchase orders, while maintaining records and supporting invoicing and compliance training.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or combination of education and experience.
CTD (Certified Contract Developer) to be obtained within 12 months on start date.
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Knowledge of standard business terms and arithmetic.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Procures goods and services and ensure accuracy of such purchases.
Prepares specifications for purchases.
Received requisitions, secures bids, tabulates and makes award of standard purchases.
Maintains records and files of requisitions, bids and awards processed.
Issues purchase orders according to proper policies and procedures.
Assists purchasing manager with processing of invoices and routing requisitions.
Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University and job-specific online training courses.
