JOB DESCRIPTION

Position title: Process Technician

Reports to: Shift Supervisor

Location: PVNA

Position level: Plant

Management: No direct reports

Department: Molding

Purpose of the job

The Process Technician is responsible for setting up, processing, and qualifying precision parts while monitoring production to ensure quality, safety, and efficient machine performance.

Main Responsibilities

• Monitor production lines.

• Verify that materials match the bill of materials (BOM).

• Set cycle times to support standard efficiency.

• Verify component material part numbers against the production BOM.

• Complete logbook entries and communicate shift issues during pass-down.

• Set up, repair, and troubleshoot machines to produce quality parts.

• Stop presses for color changes and purge remaining material in accordance with work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

• Perform mold changes, tool pulls, and tool sets.

• Ensure molds and molding machines operate at maximum performance.

• Inspect first-piece production.

• Perform in-process production inspections.

• Notify Quality when a defect is detected.

• Analyze problem areas when parts do not meet quality specifications and make required adjustments so parts meet size, appearance, and functionality requirements.

• Maintain and complete all required reports and records.

• Work with supervisors to determine daily production priorities and address mold and machine issues.

• Continuously pursue the best possible line quality and productivity.

• Apply standardized work practices and participate in improving standards.

• Comply with company safety policies and procedures, maintain good housekeeping, and follow GMP practices.

• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Main challenges & complexity

• Systematically troubleshoot machine, mold, and process issues while minimizing production disruption.

• Balance production efficiency with first-piece and in-process quality requirements.

• Make precise process adjustments so parts meet size, appearance, and functionality specifications.

• Coordinate shifting production priorities, equipment issues, and pass-down information across teams and shifts.

Communication

• Internal contacts: Lead Process Technician, Production Supervisors, Quality personnel, operators, and other molding personnel.

• External contacts: None specified.

Knowledge

• Education / diplomas: High school diploma or GED; technical degree in a process-related field preferred.

• Functional knowledge: Machine functionality, mold changes, production BOM verification, cycle-time setting, standardized work, SOPs, and GMP practices.

• Technical skills: Ability to troubleshoot machines systematically and make process adjustments to meet part specifications.

• Safety: Ability to work safely and follow all established safety rules, policies, and procedures.

• Soft skills: Self-motivated, quality focused, productive, and able to communicate effectively across shifts and departments.

Physical Demands

While performing this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, climb, reach, stoop, step onto machinery to retrieve parts, and maintain balance while performing machine troubleshooting. The employee may occasionally be required to lift up to 55 pounds, kneel, and crawl.
