Job Description
I. Job Summary
The Process Technician maintains and repairs blow mold and/or injection mold machines during production. Responsibilities include troubleshooting machinery, hot stamp machines, and repairing/replacing mold parts. The technician also assists the Supervisor in achieving production, quality, housekeeping, and safety goals.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Produce quality plastic wheels, lids, and small components for trash cans.
- Make necessary adjustments to injection molding equipment to keep it within allowable specifications.
- Set up injection/blow molding tools and molds, sample/production molds, and set machine parameters to process parts to specifications; connect all water lines as needed (chilled and tower water).
- Start-up and troubleshoot issues at the press, inspect sample parts, remove molds, stage for disassembly, and collaborate with production teams to meet demand and improve processes.
- Connect hydraulics for mold knock-out pins and repair/replace as necessary.
- Connect pneumatic lines to molds and repair/replace as necessary.
- Connect mold heaters and thermocouple cables.
- Make resin changes on machines as needed.
- Assist the Shift Supervisor in training and directing Packer/Inspectors to ensure quality production.
- Record end-of-shift production, downtime, and quality data.
- Monitor the IQMS system.
- Report unsafe or out-of-specification equipment promptly.
- Diagnose, inspect, troubleshoot, and investigate machinery issues during production, including production of out-of-spec parts.
- Reduce waste and scrap rates during mold change processes.
- Notify relevant personnel of scrap issues promptly.
- Evaluate mold change schedules to meet production needs and coordinate plant resources involved in job changes.
- Conduct preventative maintenance while tools are in machines.
- Adjust machine parameters for order specifications, ensuring minimal flash and safety compliance.
- When not working directly with machinery, perform responsibilities similar to Material Handlers, including relieving Material Handlers during breaks.
III. Qualifications
The following are required qualifications:
- Forklift certification (can be obtained on-site).
- 3-5 years of injection and/or blow molding experience.
- 1-3 years of robotics experience.
- Experience working with robotics, conveyors, sprue pickers.
- Experience with McGuire blenders.
- Experience processing HDPE.
Additional knowledge, skills, or abilities required include:
- Knowledge of blow molding and injection molding.
- Knowledge of mold change setup.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of valve gate injection molding, hot stamping setup, mold labeling, and robotics.
- Understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical concepts.
- Ability to use basic hand tools and a multimeter.
- Ability to process optimal conditions for efficient cycles.
- Operate forklifts to move molds and equipment.
