Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Injection Molding Process Technician to support and optimize high-volume plastic manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and improving molding processes across multiple machines, materials, and mold types. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with machine setup, parameter optimization, and troubleshooting to ensure consistent part quality, cycle efficiency, and minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and start up injection molding machines across a range of tonnage and mold configurations
- Establish and adjust processing parameters (temperature, pressure, speed, cooling, etc.) for optimal performance
- Troubleshoot process issues related to quality defects, cycle times, and material behavior
- Work with a variety of plastic resins (e.g., polypropylene, polyethylene, engineering resins, etc.)
- Monitor and maintain consistent part quality to meet specifications and tolerances
- Perform mold changeovers and support tool setup as needed
- Optimize cycle times and reduce scrap through continuous process improvement
- Document and standardize processes, including setup sheets and parameter guidelines
- Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to resolve equipment or process-related issues
- Support new mold trials, validations, and process development activities
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and production standards
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on injection molding process technician experience
- Strong understanding of injection molding principles and processing parameters
- Experience running multiple machines (various tonnage sizes) simultaneously
- Knowledge of plastic materials and resin behavior in molding applications
- Ability to troubleshoot molding defects (short shots, flash, warping, sink, etc.)
- Experience with mold setup, changeovers, and process startup
- Familiarity with scientific molding principles preferred
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and part specifications
- Strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high-volume production environments
- Exposure to a variety of molding machines and control systems
- Basic understanding of PLCs or machine interfaces (HMI)
- Continuous improvement or lean manufacturing experience
