Job summary

Cortina Plastics is seeking an experienced Blow Molding Operator for the second shift in Franklin Park, IL. You will execute start-up procedures, purge lines, and set up tooling to ensure optimal speeds and quality parameters.

Calibrate temperatures, pressures, and speeds to minimize defects while supporting color changes. You will supervise operators during breaks, assist with mold changes and color transitions, and document process changes to QA.

Qualifications

• 2+ years hands-on blow molding experience in manufacturing.
• Experience operating & setting up extrusion blow molding machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, work orders, and BOMs.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Execute start-up procedures for production presses to meet quality parameters and speeds.
• Perform color/material changes with purging and tooling setup to minimize scrap.
• Troubleshoot machine/process issues; adjust temperature, pressure, and speed to fix defects.
• Inspect first article parts and perform routine quality checks with precision tools.
• Assist with preventative maintenance and mold/die changes; maintain clean work area.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:**Execute safe & accurate start-up procedures for production presses, ensuring all equipment runs at optimal speeds & meets quality parametersPerform fast & precise color and material changeovers including purging systems, clearing material lines, & setting up tooling to minimize scrap & downtimeProvide rotational technical support & floor coverage, enabling primary operators to take scheduled breaks without interrupting production flowIdentify & resolve machine or tooling faults in real time by adjusting settings such as temperature, pressure, & speed to correct defectsInspect first-article parts & conduct routine quality checks using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to ensure parts conform to exact specificationsAssist with routine preventative maintenance & mold or die changes, & maintain a clean, safe work area around equipment & processesSupervise & train all operators assigned to blow moldingTroubleshoot both machine & process issues as they arisePerform mold changes, start up new jobs, & assist with color changesDocument & maintain process condition changes, & collaborate with QA to ensure all target weights & colors remain within specificationEnforce proper use of PPE and ensure all cutting protocols are followed throughout the shiftAssist with cleaning grinders and troubleshooting auxiliary equipment issuesProvide break coverage for operators as needed throughout the shiftCommunicate any process, equipment, or auxiliary equipment issues to other shifts in a clear & timely manner**POSITION REQUIRMENTS:**2+ years of hands-on experience in a blow molding manufacturing environment operating & setting up production machineryMust have industrial large-shot Extrusion Blow Molding experienceStrong mechanical aptitude + ability to read & interpret technical manuals, work orders, packaging, quality instructions, bill of material**WORK ENVIRONMENT/ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:**Schedule: Monday-Friday - Second Shift 3:30PM-11:30PMAbility to spend the day working or standingAbility to lift 50lbs. and move heavy items with the use of a crane or forklift and able to safely climb and move around machineryNon-climate-controlled, high-noise production & warehouse areas where appropriate PPE must be wornCompensation: $24.00 - $30.00 p/h + benefits*This Job Description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee and may be revised at any time by the Company.*
