Job summary

Mariana Minerals is seeking a Process Safety Management (PSM) Engineer to build and improve the company’s process safety and major hazard risk management program. You will plan and document PHAs, HAZOPs, HAZIDs, LOPAs, and risk assessments across labs, pilot ops, and facilities.

The role requires a chemical/mechanical/mining safety background, 5+ years’ experience, and the ability to translate findings into practical controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical, mining, metallurgy, safety, or related field.
• 5+ years in process safety, process engineering, plant design, operations, or risk management in minerals or related industries.
• Hands-on experience facilitating PHAs, HAZOPs, HAZIDs, LOPAs, MOC, PSSR, or similar risk processes.
• Ability to read and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, and safety-critical design information.
• Knowledge of OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, IFC/IBC concepts, NFPA standards, and related safety requirements.
• Strong technical writing, facilitation, and communication skills.
• Certifications such as PE, CSP, CCPSC, CFPS are a plus.
• Experience with pilot plants, lab-scale hazards, or scale-up projects is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Administer PSM and major hazard risk management workflows, including risk study planning, pre-work, facilitation, documentation, and action tracking.
• Lead or support PHAs, HAZOPs, HAZIDs, LOPAs, what-if studies, bowties, risk assessments, and related reviews.
• Support MOC and Pre-Startup Safety Review processes, including startup readiness and training needs.
• Review PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specs, operating envelopes, and safety-critical design information for safety implications.
• Provide engineering input on life safety, fire protection, ventilation, detection, and emergency shutdown.
• Collaborate with SMEs, engineers, insurers, and AHJs to translate codes into actionable requirements.
• Develop and maintain process safety information, hazard registers, and risk assessment templates.
• Evaluate safeguards using hierarchy of controls and independent protections.
• Support incident investigations and corrective action development.
• Embed process safety in project planning, commissioning, operating procedures, and field execution.
• Support broader Health & Safety initiatives as needed.
