Process Safety Engineer – Chemical Manufacturing
Ready to take ownership of process safety at a complex chemical manufacturing site where your expertise can directly influence how we operate, manage risk, and protect our people and assets?
At INEOS Acetyls, we’re looking for an experienced Process Safety Engineer to serve as the site subject matter expert and technical authority for Process Safety Management.
This is more than a compliance role. You’ll work across Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Projects, and SHE to strengthen process safety systems, identify and reduce risk, and help ensure process safety is embedded in how decisions are made across the site.
Why this role stands out
- Serve as the site subject matter expert for Process Safety Management
- Lead and facilitate PHAs, HAZOPs, LOPAs, and other risk assessment activities
- Influence process safety strategy and improvement priorities across the site
- Partner directly with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Projects, SHE, and site leadership
- Provide technical leadership around process hazards, safeguards, SIS/SIL evaluations, and risk mitigation
- Lead meaningful improvements in PSM compliance, action-item closure, and process safety performance
- Opportunity to coach and develop process safety capability throughout the organization
What you’ll be doing
- Lead and support the site Process Safety Management program and consistent application of PSM requirements
- Facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), HAZOPs, and Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPAs)
- Drive effective closure of PHA, LOPA, audit, and process safety action items
- Identify process safety risks, compliance gaps, and opportunities for improvement
- Lead or support process safety incident investigations, root cause evaluations, and lessons learned
- Provide technical guidance related to Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Safety Integrity Level (SIL) analysis, safeguards, and functional safety
- Develop and monitor process safety KPIs and provide risk visibility and recommendations to site leadership
- Support process safety audits, regulatory compliance reviews, and assurance activities
- Analyze incidents, near misses, trends, and system performance to identify opportunities to reduce risk
- Support capital projects, operational changes, maintenance activities, and engineering reviews from a process safety perspective
- Train, coach, and mentor employees and leaders on process safety principles and risk assessment practices
- Help drive implementation of the INEOS 20 Principles of Process and Behavioral Safety
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field
- Minimum of 5 years of Process Safety Management-related experience and plant experience
- Experience within chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, refining, or oil & gas environments
- Strong working knowledge of the 14 elements of OSHA Process Safety Management
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting PHA, HAZOP, and LOPA studies
- Strong understanding of process safety regulations, engineering practices, safeguards, and major accident hazard controls
- Experience evaluating process safety risks and translating technical findings into practical actions
- Ability to influence and build alignment across multidisciplinary teams without direct authority
- Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and drive critical actions through completion
What success looks like
You become the trusted process safety resource for the Texas City site — providing the technical leadership, constructive challenge, and practical guidance needed to identify risk before it becomes an incident.
You strengthen PSM systems, improve the quality of hazard assessments, drive action-item closure, and build greater process safety capability throughout the organization.
You’re not simply maintaining a process safety program.
You’re helping shape how the site understands, manages, and reduces process risk.
If you’re an experienced Process Safety professional who wants to have a visible, measurable impact within a complex chemical manufacturing environment, we’d like to hear from you.
