Title: Process Maintenance
Location: Park Rapids, MN
Job Summary
INSTALLS, MAINTAINS, AND REPAIRS MACHINERY, EQUIPMENT, AND PHYSICAL STRUCTURES IN A FOOD PROCESSING PLANT DESIGNED TO PRODUCE FROZEN POTATO PRODUCTS.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for working in a safe and orderly manner while in the plant on the plant property.
- Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment.
- Listen for unusual sounds and observe machines and equipment to detect malfunctions, and discuss machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repair machines.
- Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts.
- Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
- Repairs and maintains the physical structure of the establishment.
- Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related steam and refrigeration, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
- Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
- Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, mill, grinder, and drills, to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures and tools.
- Must have worked as Maintenance I for a specific period of time as outlined in the Maintenance II requirements outline before having the ability to test.
- Performs others as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience: One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of one year experience in a maintenance position.
- Own set of hand tools (good quality, list available upon request).
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrates the ability to maintain performance.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals; ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and peers.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Certifications: Maintenance II: Must study a total of 19 TPC Training Systems manuals and successfully pass a multiple-choice written test scoring at least 70% or better to upgrade into Maintenance II.
Physical Demands
The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee frequently must climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee frequently must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The employee works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee works in high, precarious places. Noise level is usually loud.
