Job summary

APPLIED OPTOELECTRONICS INC in Sugar Land, TX is seeking a Process Integration Engineer to lead semiconductor process integration for optical laser fabrication. You will work with front-end, back-end, and packaging processes, drive yield improvements, and document results.

The role requires a BS in materials, electrical engineering, physics, or related field with 3 years in semiconductor labs; MS/PhD preferred with 1 year.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher in a relevant field with semiconductor lab or fabrication experience.
  • Hands-on experience with SEM, TEM, EDS, XRD, and optical microscopy.
  • Experience with DOE techniques and SPC methods.
  • Knowledge of compound semiconductor device theory.
  • Ability to work in a clean room and wear PPE.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Wafer Process: Develop processes to maximize efficiency and manufacturability; improve yield and performance.
  • Project Management: Implement new/improved process workflows and communicate updates to management.
  • Analysis: Review reliability data and investigate root causes of failures; conduct failure analysis as needed.
  • Cooperation: Coordinate with product engineering to resolve yield and quality issues; meet development goals.
  • Maintenance: Provide training to junior engineers and maintain documentation of processes.

The Process Integration Engineer will be responsible for semiconductor process integration in optical laser fabrication. The engineer should have experience with front-end and back-end-of-line, and packaging processing. Good understanding of reliability evaluation techniques and understanding failure analysis experience is desirable. He/she will collaborate with other individuals and functional teams, define projects, address issues, develop improvement plans, and finally to document and deliver the desired end results.

Job Duties

1. Wafer Process

Work with Process Engineers to develop processes to maximize operational efficiency

Optimize current processes to improve manufacturability, yield and performance of products

2. Project Management

Work with process and process integration team to implement and integrate new/improved process workflow

Communicate process data and actions through meetings, presentations, and reports to management and monitor process stability through ongoing review of yield and quality performance metrics

3. Analysis

Review reliability data and investigate the root cause if any failures on reliability

Failure analysis to verify the cause if needed thru internal and external resources

Review layout of product design structure for understanding and finding any issue related to design

4. Cooperation

Interact and coordinate with product engineering team to resolve yield and quality issues

Resolve action items on timely basis to meet product development goals

5. Maintenance

Provide training and guidance to Junior Engineers or technicians as needed

Maintain documentation for new and improved processes for reference purposes

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Material Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline plus 3 years of work experience in a semiconductor laboratory or fabrication is required.

Master's degree or Ph.D. in Material Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline plus 1 year of work experience in semiconductor laboratory or fabrication is preferred.

Hands-on experience in semiconductor characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, EDS, XRD, optical microscopy, etc. is preferred.

Knowledge of compound semiconductor device theory is desired.

Microsoft Access, SQL, LabVIEW and other programming skills preferred.

Experience with DOE techniques and SPC (Statistical Process Control) is preferred.

Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.

Detail oriented and self-motivated.

Ability to work independently and as a team.

Ability to work in clean room environment wearing smock.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for successful inter and intra-group interactions.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Subject to noise, vibration, dust, odors, and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.

The associate works in a manufacturing environment and be require to wear personal protective equipment.

Location

This position will be on-site based in Sugar Land, Texas.
